Gregg Popovich, an American professional basketball executive and former coach, currently serves as the president of the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA.

The former Spurs head coach, Gregg Popovich, is not only known for his remarkable professional journey but also as a proud father of two kids and a devoted husband to his late wife, Erin.

Gregg Popovich first met his late wife, Erin Rose Conboy—a California native—at the Air Force Academy in the 1970s, when he was working as an assistant coach for the Falcons. Erin’s father, the late James Ignatius Conboy, was a former athletic trainer.

Furthermore, Gregg and Erin were married for 42 years until her death on April 18, 2018, in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas, United States, at the untimely age of 67 following a long illness.

The Olympic gold medalist NBA coach who has remained private about his personal life opened up bout his family during his Hall of Fame induction speech, saying:

“My wife, Erin, of 42 years, was our center of gravity. She was our rock and made everything worthwhile and meaningful.”

Gregg Popovich added, “In her place now, our family has done a great job of keeping it going,” and further proudly talked about his two kids.

Popovich revealed that his son, Micky, is an artist and musician based in Seattle, and his daughter, Jill, has taken the lead in helping to keep their family on the right path.

Similarly, Gregg Popovich also opened up about being a grandfather to two adorable grandkids.

He referred to his grandkids as “stars of the show,” and stated:

“I tell my son and my daughter, ‘I love ya,’ it’s not that it’s gone away, but you guys are a little bit boring now. There’s nothing else I can give you, you’re on your own. Get out of here, give me the kids, you know, that’s what it’s all about.”

Gregg Popovich’s Son, Micky Popovich, Is Excelling In His Music Career

Micky Popovich is a musician and artist, best known for his creative contributions as a composer of projects such as One at a Time: Tails of Triumph (2015) and In Search of Nabad (2013).

Passionate about music and the arts from a very young age, Micky has carved out his own path in the creative world, while also being recognized as the son of Gregg Popovich.

Despite his father’s high-profile sports career, Micky has pursued a life centered around the music industry and prefers to maintain a low profile.

While very little information about his daughter Jill Popovich’s professional and personal life is available, she is committed to honoring her late mother, Erin Popovich, who passed away from interstitial lung disease.

Alongside Gregg, Jill has played a vital role in supporting the CHEST Foundation’s mission to fight chest diseases.

Both Jill and Gregg are listed among the Founders Society Members, recognized for their philanthropic contributions.

Through the Erin Popovich Endowment and their position among the CHEST Foundation’s top donors, the Popovich family continues to transform personal loss into a meaningful legacy that supports families and drives progress in respiratory healthcare.
