Sydney Martin, an exceptional cheerleader and student-athlete of San Diego State University, passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at an untimely age, leaving her family, friends, and loved ones devastated.

While her parents and family haven’t shared much about the cause and manner of the untimely death of California native Sydney Martin, according to some reports, she took her own life.

Sydney Martin was a member of San Diego State University’s Cheer team, CheerForce.

Moreover, she won the heart of many with her exceptional athletic skills and was known for her kind nature.

Sydney Martin also showcased her exceptional cheerleading skills at Santana High School. In addition to her amazing athletic skills, she excelled academically.

Similarly, the untimely death of Sydney Martin has left a profound void in the lives of her family, friends, and loved ones.

Many of her loved ones are paying tribute to late Sydney Martin and extending their heartfelt condolences to her family during this difficult time.

One of her team members, Ariel Sabas, took to social media to express her sorrow and pay tribute to Sydney.

The post reads:

“Sending love to my CheerForce family and Martin family as we grieve the loss of our beloved athlete Sydney. She was beyond talented, funny and always stood as a team leader. I was blessed to have coached her during her first year at CheerForce and continued to watch her grow as an all around athlete. Even outside of CF, I always knew I’d see the Martin family cheering me on the sidelines at every SDSU basketball game and always looked for Sydney in the crowd. She will be deeply missed❤️‍🩹”

Moreover, the Santee, California community has created a GoFundMe page to help Sydney Martin’s family cover the cost of her funeral and memorial services.

The fundraiser’s goal is to raise $18,000, and to date, approximately $15,442 has been collected, which is 86 percent of the total goal.

Sydney Martin Leaves Behind Her Parents, Scott And Charlette And Two siblings

The untimely death of Sydney Martin has left her parents and family devastated.

She was the beloved daughter of California natives, Scott Martin and Charlette Hultquist Martin.

Although her parents haven’t shared much about their daughter’s untimely death as they are currently grieving the loss, her father, Scott Martin,, shared a beautiful picture of Sydney Martin with a caption “We love you baby girl 💔💔.”

Talking about her parents, late Sydney’s father, Scott Martin, has been working as an Appraiser-Tech in Santee, California since 2003.

Prior to that, Scott Martin worked as a sales associate at Home Depot for almost seven years.

Likewise, Sydney’s mother Charlette, currently serves as a School Psychologist of San Marcos Unified School District.

Simultaneously, Charlette works as an associate professor at National University, a licensed educational psychologist at MetaCog Learning Solutions, and an associate professor at the University of Phoenix.

She began her career as a school psychologist for the Lemon Grove School District in Lemon Grove, CA, in 1998 and served in her position for almost 18 years. Charlette also worked as an educational neuropsychologist for the Cajon Valley Union School District for over seven years.

Furthermore, Charlette earned her Doctor of Psychology from California Southern University in 2025, her Master of Arts and Educational Psychology from Chapman University, and a Bachelor of Arts in major psychology and child development from San Diego State University.

In addition to her parents, Sydney Martin is survived by her brothers, grandparents, and the whole family.
