Manny Machado and his wife, Yainee Alonso, have been married since 2014.

The San Diego Padres’ third baseman, Manny Machado and Yainee Alonso began dating in 2011 and celebrated their love with a romantic wedding in December 2014 at the Château de Challain in France.

Their relationship has taken them across the country, from Machado’s time with the Los Angeles Dodgers to their current home in San Diego.

In 2019, Machado made history by signing a 10-year, $300 million deal with the Padres, the largest free-agent contract ever at the time.

Throughout his career, Alonso has been a steadfast source of support.

Although the couple keeps much of their personal life private, one thing is evident–Alonso’s consistent support for her husband.

Yainee Alonso Was Born In Cuba To A Baseball-Loving Family

Born in Havana, Cuba, Yainee Alonso is the daughter of Luis and Damaris Alonso.

Her father was a player and coach for Industriales of the Cuban National Series.

In 1996, the family defected to the United States, settling in Miami.

Her father’s love for baseball influenced her brother, Yonder.

Yonder later joined MLB and played for teams like the Cincinnati Reds and the San Diego Padres.

He announced his retirement in November 2020 and expressed gratitude for his family, mentioning Yainee and Machado.

“I do want to take this opportunity and thank my FAMILY – Mom, Papi, Sis, Manny, Pete. You guys are what made me. I love you guys! I’ll try my best to keep it short and sweet, but those who know me know I can get emotional with this stuff. I can’t thank all you guys enough.”

Yonder then transitioned into a media career, joining the MLB Network as an analyst in April 2021.

Yainee Alonso is a University of Miami graduate, earning her pre-med degree in December 2012.

Furthermore, during her time in Miami, she was also part of the Miami Marlins’ Mermaids cheerleading squad.

Machado and Alonso’s love story began with his friendship with her brother.

The two baseball players met in 2009 when Machado was a teenager.

Ultimately, in 2011, after a trip to Spain with Yainee and Yonder, Machado sought Yonder’s permission to date his sister.

Yonder recalled,

“I told him, ‘Look, as long as you respect her and be there for her. And whatever happens, just know if something happens between you guys we’re still friends. We were friends before, and we’ll be friends afterward.'”

On February 6, 2013, Machado proposed to Alonso in South Beach, Florida, though the moment wasn’t without its hiccups.

Manny Machado admitted to USA Today that he was “a mess” and struggling to get the ring out of his pocket.

“I was a mess. I was struggling to get the ring out. It was stuck in my pocket.”

Moreover, Alonso, recalling the moment, said,

“He’s on his knees and talking, saying sweet things, and I didn’t even hear him propose. Guys think that it’s like the movies, the woman says yes automatically. But you are so in shock. I finally said yes, but then I asked him to ask me again because I didn’t hear him.”

Since their marriage, Alonso has frequently appeared on Machado’s Instagram.

Following the conclusion of his 2018 season with the Dodgers, he posted a heartfelt photo with her on the field, stating he could not have done “it” without her by his side.

Furthermore, in 2020, Machado celebrated Alonso’s birthday with a touching Instagram tribute:

“Happy birthday to the most beautiful amazing person in this planet, that I get to call my wife!!!! Wishing you nothing but continuous happiness and love forever I love you!!!!!!!! May all your wishes become reality!!!!! Forever my sweetheart.”

The couple also graces red carpet events together, including appearances at the All-Star Red Carpet Show in Los Angeles in 2021 and 2022.

However, despite their public appearances, Machado and Alonso prefer a quieter lifestyle.

Speaking to USA Today, Manny Machado stated that he and his wife were “boring” people and they do not really let anyone in.

“People think, ‘Oh, you’re a big-leaguer, you live in Miami, you can probably go to any club you want.’ The truth is that we are boring. We don’t really let people in. We’ve got a very close circle, and that’s it.”

Finally, he added,

“For us, it’s all about family.”
