Craig Connelly, a legendary figure in Santa Clara youth football, passed away in May 2025, leaving his family and well-wishers heartbroken.

His contributions as head coach to the Santa Clara Lions Youth Football & Cheer program have left a lasting impact.

He has also been associated with the Santa Clara Lions’ 12U Wildcats, where his coaching and mentorship have left a lasting impact.

Craig Was An Outstanding Member Of Buchser High School’s Class Of 1967!

As a past president of the Santa Clara Lions Club, Craig played a pivotal role in fostering leadership and sportsmanship among young athletes.

Under his leadership, the Santa Clara Lions achieved remarkable success, securing 32 division championships and 38 league titles.

His dedication helped shape the program into one of the most accomplished Pop Warner teams in the nation.

Craig’s impact extended beyond the football field. His contributions to education and sports were further honored by being a member of the Santa Clara Unified School District Hall of Fame.

He believed that athletic competition builds character, enhances physical conditioning, and fosters emotional growth.

His philosophy, captured in his words:

It’s all a state of mind”
If you think you’re beaten, you are;
If you think you dare not, you won’t
If you like to win, but don’t think you can,
It’s almost a cinch you won’t

If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost;
For out in the world you’ll fine
Success begins with a persons will;
It’s all a STATE OF MIND….

This reflects his belief that success in sports and life is largely determined by mindset.

He emphasized that these qualities help youth develop skills that extend beyond sports.

Connelly’s passing marks the loss of a dedicated mentor, leader, and advocate for youth development.

His well-wishers, colleagues, and students are flooding social media with heartfelt tributes, honoring his impact and legacy.

One of his students expressed deep gratitude and respect, saying:

RIP COACH . Thank You so so much for the care you had for our LYONS organization. ❤️🤍🖤❤️🤍🖤🏈🏈🏈

Furthermore, one of his colleagues voiced sorrow and said:

I coached for the Palo Alto Knights, Coach Connelly was a legend and a great youth football coach…I always respected his dedication, leadership and passion for all the kids in his program. We always had to prepare our teams at the highest level when playing the Lions! We lost a good man who made a difference in so many young boys and girls lives. RIP Coach!

Our heartfelt condolences go out to Craig Connelly’s family, friends, and well-wishers.

Rest In Peace, Legend Craig Connelly!
