Late Augie DeLaRiva Was Previously Sentenced to 16 Years for a DUI Crash

The late Augie Lamar DeLaRiva was previously sentenced to 16 years in state prison for a violent DUI collision that injured several people on US-101.

DeLaRiva, who was 32 at that time, entered a no-contest plea in April 2023 to felony charges of driving under the influence and causing injury.

He also acknowledged four sentencing enhancements for inflicting significant bodily injury and two additional enhancements for injuring more than one victim.

At the time, District Attorney Rodriguez condemned DeLaRiva’s actions, noting that he had been driving on the freeway around 4 p.m. with nearly three times the legal blood alcohol limit.

The incident occurred in April 2021 as several victims were on a short road trip and had come to a stop in traffic on northbound US-101 near the Santa Rosa Avenue exit.

DeLaRiva, operating a lifted Chevrolet Silverado pickup, was traveling at about 70 mph with a blood alcohol concentration of .22% when he failed to brake and collided with the back of the victims’ vehicle.

The force of the crash pushed the victims’ car into a third vehicle. After the collision, DeLaRiva left the scene and parked near the Santa Rosa Avenue exit.

Five occupants were inside the struck vehicle, and several sustained life-threatening injuries.

While it is unclear whether Augie DeLaRiva was serving his sentence or had been released at the time of his passing, his cellmates and friends from Prison recall him as a helpful person who was always there for anyone in need.

Augie DeLaRiva’s family will soon provide details about his funeral and memorial services.
