  • She emphasizes the importance of regular check-ups and women’s health awareness.
  • Williams received strong encouragement from fans and her husband, Alexis Ohanian.

Serena Williams is on the road to recovery after undergoing surgery to remove a large benign cyst from her neck, which she described as being “the size of a small grapefruit.

In a heartfelt TikTok video, Williams detailed her experience, revealing that she first noticed the lump in May.

After consulting with doctors and undergoing an MRI, she learned that she had a branchial cyst.

@serena Back in May I found a lump showing on my neck. I immediately went to the doc got a mri and was told I have a brachial cyst. Have you ever heard of that? They said I don’t need to get it removed if I don’t want. So I did not get it but it kept growing. I decided to get more test and 3 test and one biopsy later everything is still negative but doctors advised I get it removed asap because it was the size of a small grapefruit and it could get infected or worse leak. So this is me removing it. I am feelimg so grateful, and fortunate everything worked out, and most of all I’m healthy. I still made it to American doll with Olympia as promised. And yes all is ok. 🙏🏿🙏🏿 #fyp #foryourpage #serenawilliams #mom ♬ original sound – Serenawilliams

Initially, surgery was optional; however, as the cyst continued to grow, medical professionals advised her to have it removed to prevent potential complications such as infection or leakage.

Despite multiple tests and a biopsy showing no signs of cancer, the decision was made for surgery due to the cyst’s size and associated risks.

After the surgery, Williams shared her relief, stating,

“I am feeling so grateful, and fortunate everything worked out, and most of all I’m healthy.”

While recovering, she humorously noted that she still managed to take her daughter Olympia to an American Girl Doll store.

In another update on Twitter, she expressed sadness about missing Glamour’s Woman of the Year awards and Nadal’s retirement but emphasized that ‘health always comes first.’

Williams’s candidness about her health scare has sparked discussions about women’s health issues, particularly regarding benign cysts.

Medical experts explain that brachial cleft cysts are fluid-filled sacs that can appear on the neck and are more common in children

Although these cysts are typically non-cancerous, surgical removal is often recommended if they cause discomfort or pose health risks.

In her recent tweet, Williams highlighted the importance of breast cancer awareness during October, sharing a personal moment from her check-up.

Her openness is an important reminder of the necessity of regular medical check-ups and listening to one’s body.

Fans have rallied around Williams during her recovery, with her husband Alexis Ohanian expressing admiration for her strength and resilience.

He commented on her Twitter post, saying,

“You’re such a fighter. And such a great mama.”
