Serious Car Crash Leaves Curry HS Volleyball Player Makenzie Turner Hospitalized, Condition Stable

The Curry HS community is coming together to support one of its own, Makenzie Turner, a recently graduated student-athlete who was involved in a serious car accident.

The news has left family, friends, and teammates heartbroken yet hopeful, as they rally around Makenzie, praying for her recovery.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred around 3 a.m. on Sunday near Mt. Olive Road and Patridge Loop.

A pickup truck carrying eight teenagers veered off the roadway and struck a utility pole.

When deputies arrived at the scene, two male teenagers, 19-year-old Tristan Drake Cox of Dora and 18-year-old Treylen Anderson Floyd of Warrior, were pronounced dead.

The Jefferson County Coroner confirmed their identities, leaving the community in mourning for these young lives lost.

The six other passengers, including Makenzie Turner, were transported to UAB Hospital in Birmingham with non-life-threatening injuries.

Makenzie, a beloved member of the Curry High School community, is reportedly in stable condition, offering a ray of hope amidst the tragedy.
