Shermya Gamble’s Life Cut Short in Fatal Crash at 16, Leaving Behind the Legacy of Love and Leadership

Shermya Gamble, a junior student from Jackson High School, passed away at the age of 16 in a car accident on Tuesday morning, August 12, 2025.

Her tragic demise news came just a week after the start of her junior year. She was on her way to school when the accident happened on Industrial Road.

Shermya Gamble was a vibrant and talented member of the Class of 2027 whose presence left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered.

She was a leader, a performer, and a friend whose energy and dedication inspired those around her. A proud member of The Sound of the Aggie Nation’s Color Guard brought grace and passion to every performance.

Her talent extended beyond the field, as she was also an exceptional singer with the Aggie Singers and JHS Ensemble, where her voice lifted spirits and brought joy to audiences.

Moreover, her involvement in FBLA and DECA showcased her ambition and leadership.

Shermya’s greatest gift was her ability to light up a room with her contagious spirit. She was a natural leader who cared deeply for her peers, always looking out for those around her.

Her warmth, talent, and unwavering positivity made every moment brighter. Undoubtedly, her tragic demise saddened the whole community, and many remembered her in their heartfelt tribute.

Since yesterday morning, our hearts have been heavy within The Jackson High School Family as we are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of our beloved student, Shermya Gamble.
During times like these, we may experience a heightened level of mixed emotions. Extra counseling and emotional support services are available for our students, faculty, and staff who may be in need throughout the upcoming days.

Shermya Gamble’s Family Mourns The Tragic Loss

Shermya Danea’ Gamble, the daughter of Pamela Darrington and Sherman Gamble, was born on June 24, 2009.

Her parents raised her in a close-knit family alongside her sisters, Tonia Jenkins and Kalia King, and brother Isaac Gamble.

Shermya was united with the Mount Olive No. 2 Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Stevenson E. Tullis while growing up.

She was a beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, and friend. She departed this life, leaving behind a legacy of love, joy, and cherished memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.

Moreover, she was preceded in death by her grandfather, J.C. Gamble, and her uncle, Anthony Davis.

Her parents, siblings, and the extended family survive her. She shared a close bond with her nephew, Tylon Darrington, and grandparents, Sandra Darrington, Joylyn Rodgers, and Donald Manuel.

Similarly, her aunts, Ursula Darrington, Melba Darrington, Danielle Darrington, Natasha Gamble, and Kaylan Gamble, and uncles, Corey Darrington and J.C. Gamble Jr., celebrate her beautiful memory.

I remember when we had our annual Family Christmas gathering at our house & everybody was having such a great time. Laughing & enjoying each other & then u said something to everybody that had everybody shocked, “you was like I’m happy that we spend time together & I just love and appreciate my family.” You started crying & had the entire room crying. You will be truly missed. Pray for her Mother Pam Darrington. I’m am asking for Prayers & Strength for the Darrington & Gamble family. Pray for the Depot as well!

Shermya also leaves behind a host of other relatives, classmates, and close friends who will forever treasure the light she brought into their lives.

Her vibrant spirit, kindness, and love touched everyone she encountered. Though she has left early, her memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who loved her.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, August 16, at the Jackson High School Auditorium, located at 321 Stanley Drive, Jackson, AL 36545.

The viewing will begin at noon, followed by the funeral service at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1076 Center Street, Jackson, AL.

The final life celebration has been entrusted to Jackson Memorial Funeral Home, 203 East Ross St., Jackson, AL 36545.

Shermya’s family appreciates all prayers, love, and support during this difficult time.

May her soul rest in eternal peace.

Lord I’m Praying Along With Shermya Family And Friends. May The Lord Comfort And Ease Them Through This Tragic Time They Are Going Through. I Still Can’t Wrap My Head Around This. She Was Very Known And Very Outspoken In A Good Way And if Her Friends Was Wrong About A Situation Or A Lil Spat They All Had She Would Let Them Know To Their Face And Wouldn’t Bite Her Tongue About It Either And I Liked That About Her. A Sweet, Respectful Young Lady. She Will Truly Be Missed
