Gendie Miller tragically passed away on July 25, 2025, after being struck by falling tree branches while watching her daughter, Marlee, play softball at a showcase in McKeesport, Pennsylvania.
She was the beloved mother of 16-year-old softball player Marlee Miller from Ligonier Valley, a member of the class of 2027.
Mother Of Softball Player Gendie Miller Lost Her Life While Cheering On Her Daughter!
Gendie Miller was a 49-year-old woman from Ligonier, Pennsylvania.
She was married to her husband, Bill, for 17 years and was the loving mother of a 16-year-old daughter named Marlee.
Gendie was known for her kind heart and her deep dedication to her family.
She never missed any of Marlee’s games or practices. Moreover, she was well-known in the softball community across Western Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia for her support.
On Wednesday, July 25, 2025, Gendie and her husband attended the Western Pennsylvania College Showcase softball camp at Renziehausen Park in McKeesport.
Their daughter, Marlee, was participating in the event. Since it was a hot and calm day with no wind, Gendie and Bill looked for shade and sat under a large tree near the softball field.
Suddenly, Bill heard a cracking sound. Within moments, large tree branches, some as thick as 10 to 12 inches, fell directly onto Gendie, hitting her in the head and pinning her underneath.
People nearby rushed to help and tried to lift the branches off her. Emergency responders arrived quickly and transported her to Forbes Hospital.
Tragically, she stopped breathing either on the way or shortly after arriving and was pronounced dead.
In an interview with WTAE News, Bill recalled this tragic incident, saying:
I said to my wife, ‘Let’s go.’ I jumped out of my chair, felt a small branch of some sort that grazed my leg. And I immediately turned to my right to look back at her, and she was face down with large, multiple branches and limbs.

Her unexpected passing has left the family and the entire community in mourning.
Family members, relatives, and close friends have expressed heartfelt condolences and shared memories in her honor.
One of Gendie’s well-wishers expressed her sorrow, saying:
Brandon, Tobie, Keith and family, I am so sorry to hear about Gendie Miller. Though I never had the privilege of meeting her, I hear she was a wonderful Mother and wife. May all those in attendance that day put those devastating memories aside and just remember the great lady she was. My deepest sympathy to all.
