South Sudan is reeling after the tragic death of Atoc Francis Chol Lang, the beloved daughter of Rt. Hon. Mary Ayen Mijok Kiir, the First Deputy Speaker of the Council of States.

Atoc was killed in Juba on Friday, September 26, 2025, in what many have described as a cold-blooded homicide.

Her passing has sparked outrage, sorrow, and calls for justice across the nation.

Atoc, remembered as a bright and promising young woman, had her future stolen without warning.

Her death devastated her mother, Rt. Hon. Mary Ayen Mijok, a respected political leader admired for her humility, resilience, and steadfast service to South Sudan.

Community leaders, colleagues, and friends have described the killing as both unprovoked and senseless, leaving many to question the motive behind such a crime.

Tributes poured in from leaders, communities, and individuals across the country.

The Atar Community Leadership expressedprofound sorrow” at her loss and extended heartfelt sympathies to her family, the Ruweng and Padang communities, and all South Sudanese people.

The Government of the Ruweng Administrative Area, under Chief Administrator Stephano Wieu de Mialek, described Atoc as a “precious and tender soul” and vowed to stand in solidarity with her grieving family.

He further called for a thorough investigation and justice for her mysterious killing.

Close friends and associates of Rt. Hon. Ayen Mijok also shared personal condolences.

Gisma-Angeth Mou Mou wrote to her in a heartfelt tribute, promising prayers, unwavering support, and remembrance of Atoc as a cherished soul whose life will never be forgotten.

Prominent voices, including Ateny Wek Ateny, former Press Secretary in the Office of the President, condemned the killing in the “strongest terms possible.

He raised questions about whether the attack was politically motivated or a random act of violence, urging authorities to bring the perpetrator to justice swiftly.

This killing has rendered insecurity in Juba too dangerous to manage,” Ateny said, stressing the urgent need for accountability.

He reminded the nation that the future depends on protecting the younger generation from such senseless violence.

While questions remain about the motive and the identity of the perpetrator, one fact stands clear: South Sudan has lost a shining light in Atoc Francis Chol Lang.

Her death has left her family, especially her mother, shattered, but it has also united communities in grief and solidarity.

As condolences continue to pour in, leaders and citizens alike are calling for justice not only for Atoc but also for all victims of unchecked violence in South Sudan.

Her memory now stands as a reminder of the urgent need for peace, accountability, and the protection of innocent lives.

May the soul of Atoc Francis Chol Lang rest in eternal peace.
