Former NBA player Spencer Hawes had a memorable career, but off the court, he also shares a happy life with his wife, Hannah Hawes.
Spencer Hawes, a Seattle native and former University of Washington standout, embarked on a decade-long NBA journey after being selected 10th overall by the Sacramento Kings in the 2007 NBA draft.
His Kings tenure (2007-2010) saw him develop from a rookie playing limited minutes to a regular starter following Brad Miller’s departure, setting the stage for his longest stint with the Philadelphia 76ers (2010-2014).
In Philadelphia, Hawes reached his peak as a modern stretch center, particularly during the 2013-14 season when he averaged 13.2 points while shooting an impressive 41.6% from three-point range on 3.9 attempts per game.
His career then took him through several teams via trades: a brief stop with the Cavaliers in 2014, a season with the Clippers (2014-15), a stint with the Hornets (2015-2017), and finally, the Bucks in 2017, where he provided memorable moments despite limited playing time before being waived.
Throughout his 586 NBA games, Hawes averaged 8.7 points and 5.7 rebounds while helping pioneer the role of the three-point-shooting center.
He adapted his game from traditional post-play to perimeter shooting to remain valuable in an evolving league.
His professional career concluded with a brief appearance for the South Bay Lakers in 2019.
After retiring, Spencer returned to Seattle, living just a mile from his childhood home.
His connection to the city remains strong, and he often reflects on his time at Seattle Preparatory School, where he led his team to a state championship in 2006.
