Spencer Turnbull has a net worth of $1.5 million. The former Detroit Tigers pitcher recently tied the knot with Ashely Terkeurst.
2024 has started on an exciting note for the MLB pitcher. A few weeks back, Turnbull exchanged vows with his partner of two years, Ashley Terkeurst. And now he has gone from being a free agent to a Phillies player.
The Alabama native, Spencer Turnbull, has signed a one-year contract with the Phillies worth $2 million. The 31-year-old has only made 16 starts in the big leagues in 2020 because of a series of injuries.
He missed the entirety of the 2022 season due to Tommy John surgery, and in 2023 posted a 7.26 ERA in seven starts with Detroit. The pitcher will likely open the season in Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Spencer Turnbull Net Worth & Contract
The new Phillies pitcher, Spencer Turnbull, has an estimated net worth of $1.5 million. The pitcher began his MLB journey with the Tigers in 2018 when he made his professional debut against the Cleveland Guardians.
He was drafted in 2014 by the Tigers and was handed a $900,000 contract. In 2018, Turnbull signed a $545,00 contract with the team. He made a similar figure in 2019, 2020, and 2021, but in 2022 decided to go for a salary arbitration hearing.
The right-handed pitcher and his team were apart by $700,000. Turnbull wanted a $2.1 million contract, and his team had offered him $1.325 million. MLB Trade rumors projected Turnbull to receive $1.8 million for 2022, but he thought otherwise.
While speaking to the media, Turnbull said, “I feel like I’m well ahead of where I should be at this point. A lot of that is out of my control, how fast I can move forward.” At the time, the pitcher was recovering from his Tommy John surgery.
A month after filing for arbitration, Turnbull and Detroit Tigers avoided the hearing as he penned a two-year, $3.65 million contract. The deal ensured that the pitcher would earn $1.5 million in 2022 and $2.15 million in 2023.
In November 2023, Turnbull confirmed that he wouldn’t return with the Tigers for the 2024 season. He received a full year of service time, giving him control over his future.
But if Tiger hadn’t non-tendered him, Turnbull was expected to receive $2.4 million through salary arbitration, keeping him in the team for another year.
Turnbull’s contract with the Phillies is his second-largest contract to date. And hopefully, his career with the Phillies will be injury-free.
Spencer Turnbull Family
Spencer Turnbull is the only son of his parents, Jim and Missy Turnbull. He has two younger sisters, Maggie and Lily.
The MLB player grew up as an Alabama fan, and it’s credit must be given to his dad, Jim. Despite being native to New York, Jim grew up as an Alabama football fan, and with his former partner, Missy, he raised his family in Alabama.
Missy and Jim divorced in 2014, and later that year, Jim discovered he had tonsil cancer. He spent 40 days receiving radiation treatments. In 2021, in an interview with The Athletic, Jim shared that he had been in remission for five years.
The Athletic interviewed Jim after Spencer pitched a no-hitter against the Mariners in 2021. Jim had been catching for his son since he taught Spencer to play baseball.
Previously, in an interview with Bally Sports Delight in 2020, Jim said he had taken full advantage of the pandemic by playing baseball with his son.
The MLB pitcher recently tied the knot with social media influencer Ashley Terkeurst. The baseball couple got engaged and married in three days. Ashley was previously married to David Hodges, with whom she shares a son named Ryser.
The couple filmed their engagement and marriage ceremony and have shared it on their Instagram handle. Spencer went down on one knee in Paris, France, and tied the knot with Ashley in England within two days.
