Alan Trautwig, affectionately known as Al Trautwig, passed away on February 23, 2025, from cancer complications. He is survived by his wife, Cathleen, and son, Alex Trautwig.

The longtime married couple’s journey goes back to their university days. Alex and Cathleen reportedly crossed paths while they were attending Adelphi University in Garden City, New York.

Nonetheless, Cathleen and Al’s sound marital life paused after Al’s Trautwig’s passing.
Cathleen supported and took care of Trautwig from his cancer diagnosis in 2019 until his last days.
Following his passing, Cathleen penned a lengthy eulogy describing how great of a husband and father he was, writing:
He was a wonderful husband and father in addition to being a 4-time National Emmy award winner and over a 30-time NY Emmy award winner. As you know he covered almost every sport in his career, including 16 Olympic Games. We hope he is remembered for all his professional achievements but also for the kind and caring person he was.

Alex Trautwig married Kara Cassella on October 15, 2022.
A graduate of Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business, Kara Cassella began her career as an analyst at LivingSocial, where she worked from June 2011 to December 2012.
From May 2013 to June 2015, she was a senior data and insights analyst at AddThis. Then, she moved on to Digitas North America, where she became an Associate Director.
In January 2020, she took on the role of Audience Strategy and Solutions Director at HBO Max. As of June 2023, she has been serving as a director at The Trade Desk.
