American sports commentator and former football player, Michael Irvin’s father, Walter Irvin, passed away due to throat cancer.

Michael Irvin met Anthony Edwards on Thursday, May 8, 2025, following the Minnesota Timberwolves’ 117-93 win over the Golden State Warriors.

Following the superstar guard’s courtside interview, he talked to the football Hall of Famer and posed for photos.

Just as the photoshoot ended, Michael suddenly kissed Ant-Man on the cheek.

Following the viral scene, one fan wrote,

“Michael Irvin snuck inna kiss for no reason at the end there and Ant wasn’t feeling it”

@FeelLikeDrew

Anthony was just as surprised as the fans who saw the video. The All-Star guard blurted, “Oh s**t,” after Irvin kissed him.

They shared a hug before parting their ways.

While some thought it was a casual scene between the two, many expressed discomfort at what the Dallas Cowboys icon did.

Michael Irvin’s Mother Took Care Of Him After The Death Of His Father

Born on March 5, 1966, Michael Irvin shared a strong bond with his father, Walter Irvin, and his mother, Stella Pearl Irvin.

Although his parents lived in the United States, their ancestors were originally from Africa. Therefore, they hold American nationality and African-American ethnicity.

His father, Walter, was a hardworking roofer who worked long hours six days a week.

Walter also played football, and his favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys, and his favorite player was #88 Drew Pearson.

Sadly, Walter tragically passed away due to brain cancer in 1983, when Michael was just 17. Following Walter’s death, Stella took care of her son, Michael.

Michael’s mother, Stella, was educated in the Calhoun County, Georgia, School System. She was a member of Mt. Mary Primitive Baptist Church, serving faithfully for over 50 years.

She served in various capacities, later becoming Mother of Mt. Mary Primitive Baptist Church.

Tragically, Michael also lost his mother, Stella, on Thursday, November 5, 2015, at 84 in Fort Lauderdale, Broward County, Florida, United States.

In Case You Didn’t Know

  • Michael Irvin has been married to Sandy Harrell since 1990. They have a daughter and two sons together, and he has another daughter from a previous relationship.
  • In 1966, as the Cowboys prepared to play the Carolina Panthers in the NFC Divisional Playoff game, media reports stated that Irvin and teammate Erik Williams, who were under the influence of cocaine, had sexually assaulted a Dallas Cheerleader, Nina Shahravan.
  • On July 29, 1998, Michael allegedly assaulted fellow Cowboys offensive lineman Everett McIver. The initial dispute stemmed from Irvin demanding that Everett vacate a barber’s chair so that Irvin would not have to wait for a haircut. They started a brawl in the shop, with fellow Cowboy Leon Lett attempting to break it up.
