St. Louis Community Mourns The Loss of Golf Coach Carol Fromuth

The St. Louis golf community mourns coach Carol Fromuth as she passes away at age 88 on February 14, 2025. The coach leaves behind her two kids and many of those who had sought inspiration from her.

Fromuth, born December 22, 1936, was a native of Akron, Ohio, who moved to St. Louis with her family in 1971.

Since 1997, Carol has been coaching golf at St. Joseph’s Academy and was previously a coach at Lafayette High School.

She began her coaching career in 1977 as the JV girls’ basketball coach at Lafayette High School and later in 1982 became the girls’ varsity coach.

That same year, she began coaching boys’ varsity golf and two years later, Carol became the girls’ golf coach.

The love for golf bleeds in her family, with her husband, Jim, and her two kids, Susan and Michael, all involved in this sport.

During her time, Carol became a national rules official for NCAA D-I Championship tournaments, a position she held for 12 years.

She was also previously the Junior Golf Director for the Gateway PGA Section for ten years, which involved conducting over a hundred tournaments for ages 5-19 (1000 golfers) every summer.

Though she might no longer be present with us, Carol’s influence over the St. Louis community is everlasting. A legend, Carol will be dearly missed by all.

Tributes Pour In For The Late Golf Coach Carol Fromuth

After the news of her demise made the wave on the internet, several of Carol’s past and present students took to social media to pay tribute to the lost soul.

Carol’s daughter, Susan, has shared a few of those tributes on her Facebook page.

One of the top golf instructors and ranked top 50 Teachers in the USA PGA and LPGA Master by Golf Digest, Alison Curdt, was the first one to share her tribute.

Curdt wrote:

A legend has passed- Coach Fro Carol Fromuth has been an instrumental piece of my golf journe since I started competing around age 10ish outside of the club environment in baskebtall and golf. She made my tougher by pairing me with the best players, putting me in older age divisions, making us play in the toughest weather conditions and it made be the resilient preson I am today.

The golf instructor continued, “She had such an influence on so many junior golfers in St. Louis, and I had the pleasure to be mentored and guided by her, work for her as I worked toward my PGA status, and she supported me by attending my psychology presentations as I became a professional and grew up.”

St Joseph’s Academy also gave its tribute to his longtime coach from its Facebook page. The Academy wrote:

“It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved longtime golf coach, Carol Fromuth.

Since joining St. Joe in 1997, Coach Fromuth built a legacy of excellence, leading our golf team to an extraordinary ten-state championship, including an unprecedented seven consecutive titles from 2016 to 2022.

The Academy further sang praises of Coach Fro and how she was a dedicated mentor and an icon in the golf world.

Coach Fro was loved by everyone who crossed paths with her and had nothing but only positive to say about her.

Coach Carol Fromuth Pushed Her Kids Towards Having A Career In Golf

The golf legend, Coach Carol Fromuth, had her two kids- Susan and Michael, play the grueling sport from a young age.

Michael has remained away from social media and hasn’t shared anything related to his mother’s passing, but Susan has been continuously sharing posts about her late mother.

Carol’s son, Michael Fromuth, received a full scholarship ride to Indiana University Bloomington, where he pursued his golfing passion and also earned a business degree.

For a long time, Michael has remained a PGA teaching professional and has closely worked with GolfTec.

Susan is an Ohio State University graduate and has been an LPGA teaching professional.

Previously, Susan was honored by the LPGA as Professional of the Year for the Midwest Section.

Susan is married to John Bachowski Jr. and the couple shares two kids, including a son named Bryce Bachowski.

John graduated from Webster University with an MBA in 2002 and previously worked as a Financial Analyst at MCI Corporation.

He worked for 18 years with Boeing in various positions in the finance department and later joined GKN Aerospace as a Finance Team Leader.

Since 2021, he has been working as a Principal of Senior Supply Chain Planner and Earned Value Management at BAE Systems.
