Staten Island Teacher And Coach Gina Luongo, 52, Passes Away After Cancer Battle, Leaves Behind Three Children!

Gina Luongo, a beloved teacher, Little League and high school basketball coach, and devoted mother of three, passed away at the age of 52.

She bravely fought cancer for nearly a year. Despite this, she continued to be a source of strength for her family and students.

Following her diagnosis, she became a vocal advocate for New York’s proposed Medical Aid in Dying Act.

Gina Luongo Was Actively Involved In Coaching Little League And High School Basketball!

Gina Luongo was a dedicated teacher and assistant basketball coach at John W. Lavelle Preparatory Charter High School in Bloomfield, Staten Island.

A year ago, she earned a master’s degree in special education from the College of Staten Island.

She was widely known for her nurturing spirit, earning the affectionate title of “School Mom” from her students.

Moreover, she was also honored for her community service, reflecting her dedication to both her students and the broader Staten Island community.

Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in November 2023, turning her family’s world upside down.

The diagnosis was devastating for her family, as she had been the sole provider for her three children.

She received treatment at Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan, undergoing chemotherapy and other medical interventions.

However, the financial burden of medical expenses, travel, and chemotherapy was overwhelming.

Her daughter, Savannah Mangin, launched a GoFundMe campaign to help support the family.

Despite the challenges, Luongo remained a pillar of strength, inspiring those around her.

She fought without giving up, but the disease ultimately took its toll.

After nearly a year of battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer, Gins Luongo sadly passed away.

Her family, including her three children, is now seeking support through a fundraiser titled Help Support the Children of a Loving Mother Gone Too Soon.”

Gina was a beloved member of her community and school. Her impact extended far beyond the classroom, she was a role model and a source of support for countless students.

Her former students are mourning her loss, remembering her as one of the best teachers they ever had, saying:

Additionally, her well-wishers describe her as a kind-hearted person, saying:
