Steve Scolamiero, a longtime Greenville athletic director, passed away at the age of 57 on Sunday, February 9, 2025, after a long battle with Cancer.
According to reports, Steve Scolamiero’s health deteriorated rapidly in recent weeks as he battled melanoma, a type of skin cancer, for the third time.
Greenville High School took to their official social media account to announce the demise of their longtime athletic director, Steve Scolamiero.
They wrote:
“It is with a heavy heart, we announce that our beloved Coach Scully passed away early this morning. It’s difficult to put words just how much he means to the Greenville High Community. Please continue to keep his family, friends, and Red Raider Nation in your thoughts and prayers. He will be missed, but his impact and legacy will live on forever. Once a Raider, Always a Raider. #ScullyStrong.”

Moreover, the whole Greenville community mourns the loss of their beloved former baseball star, Steve Scolamiero.
Greenville students gathered on the morning of Monday, February 10, 2025, at Scolamiero’s parking space to pay tribute.
“They brought flowers and led each other in prayer. That was cool to see,” said Mike Anderson, assistant athletics director and boys basketball coach of Greenville High School.
He further added, “For him to have that kind of support and to be close to the student body just speaks to his character. He had a special way of connecting with people, loving them up, and getting the best out of everybody. He was a special part of this community.“
Just a week before his demise, Steve Scolamiero’s family and loved ones remained hopeful about his recovery from cancer.
Many send their prayers to Steve Scolamiero and his family as he battled the life-threatening cancer.
Due to his declining health, he could not attend the introductory news conference for the football coach, Steve Watson. He couldn’t also witness his basketball team’s victory over Mauldin in their final regular-season home games.
In response to his demise, many of his loved ones and friends are sending their heartfelt condolences to his family and remembering his legacy.

Steve Scolamiero, a native of Stone Mountain, Georgia, was not only a great athlete but also a great husband, father, and grandfather.
Left to cherish his memory are his longtime wife, Wendy Scolamiero; his son, Clark, and his wife, Caroline Scolamiero Grigg; his three grandsons; his brother, Kent, and his wife, Kelli Scolamiero; his sister, Laura, and her husband, Matt Townsend; along with his nieces and nephews, Sam, Sara Kate, and Luke Townsend, and the entire Scolamiero family.
Moreover, Clark Scolamiero took his Facebook to pay tribute to his late father, Steve Scolamiero.

“Dad, twenty-nine years will never feel like enough.Your presence was tender and calm,your voice was assuring and welcoming,your laughter would light up a room, your heart was big and you shared it with everyone,your wisdom was valued by so many, your love was always felt.The more I think about you the more I realize what a wonderful father you were to me and a amazing grandfather to my boys but also a father/coach/mentor you were to the countless others in your life.When I think of you I can think of nothing else like it but the Fathers love.I Love you dad. You’re always in my heart, Im going to miss you.”

The late Steve Scolamiero and his wife, Wendy, welcomed their only son, Clark Scolamiero, on January 24, 1996, in Simpsonville, South Carolina.
Moreover, Clark followed in his father’s footsteps in sports and played baseball during high school and college.
Clark began his baseball journey at a very young age, inspired by his father, and played baseball at Greenville High School, where Steve served as the baseball coach from 2007 to 2014.
Similarly, Clark played baseball at his father’s alma mater, the University of South Carolina, where he earned a bachelor of SPTE, Sport Management degree in 2020.
During high school, Clark won several honorable titles, including the 2013 & 2014 South Carolina AAA All-State, and led his team to the Big League World Series championship.
Clark was drafted by the Cleveland Indians of the Minor League in June 2017; he retired from his professional baseball career in 2021 and currently works at P27 Baseball Academy.
Furthermore, Clark and his wife, Caroline, are proud parents of three sons, Noah, Shepherd, and Miller.
His wife Caroline is an entrepreneur and owner of thecolabouncehouse, an event planning company.

- As the baseball coach of Greenville High School, Steve Scolamiero led the Red Raiders to three regional and four district championships and was named the region coach of the year three times.
- Prior to Greenville, Scolamiero served as the baseball coach of Hillcrest from 2003 to 2006, winning a region title and two district championships.
- He also coached at Silver Bluff (1994-98) and Barnwell (1999 to 2002).
- Steve played baseball for two years at North Greenville, winning several honorable titles, including All-Conference as a first baseman, and he played two seasons with USC Aiken.
