Coach Jake Latimer was on Day 13 of filming Survivor 49 when his son, Jax Paul Kenneth Latimer, was born on May 2, 2025.
Jake Latimer is one of the most emotionally grounded and physically tough contestants on Survivor 49.
He is a 36-year-old correctional officer from Regina, Saskatchewan, now living in St. Albert, Alberta.
Although nicknamed “Coach Jake,” his coaching role is rooted in volunteer work; he’s heavily involved in coaching for the Special Olympics.
A former professional hockey player in Australia whose career was cut short by injury, Jake later turned to youth mentorship.
His decision to join Survivor was inspired by his father, who is losing his eyesight due to glaucoma; this season will be the last one his dad can watch.
Jake describes himself as a “big, soft teddy bear” who cries during most movies, a tender contrast to his tough exterior.
Jake Latimer Did Not Leave Survivor 49 To See His Son!
Jake Latimer’s wife, Louise Latimer, is Australian, and while her profession has not been publicly disclosed, she plays a deeply supportive role in his journey on Survivor 49.
The beautiful couple got engaged on January 14, 2019, and tied the knot four years later on January 21, 2023.
Additionally, the couple tried to conceive for over four years.
During that time, they faced fertility challenges and sought medical help, undergoing various procedures without success.
Once Jake Latimer shared his emotional journey leading up to Survivor 49:
I think the biggest motivational factor, honestly, to be here right now, is me. And so me and my wife, we were trying to have a child before I applied for the show for about four and a half years. And we couldn’t get pregnant, and so we got doctors’ help, and we did different sort of procedures and stuff like that. And I finally gave up. And I just said, “If it’s meant to happen, it’s meant to happen.
Finally, on May 2, 2025, they welcomed their first child, Jax Paul Kenneth Latimer, on the 13th day of filming Survivor 49.
Jake offered to skip the show to be present for the birth, but his wife insisted he pursue his dream, saying:
Go and do it. You’re gonna have a little brand new baby boy when you get back. He’s not going anywhere. Bring it home.
Due to Survivor’s strict communication rules, Jake wasn’t informed of the birth until after filming.
Despite missing the moment, he played with deep emotional motivation, hoping to win the $1 million prize for his growing family.
Jake is now back home with his family and spending time with his beloved wife and their newborn son.
