Terrence Butler, a Drexel University men’s basketball team member, tragically passed away on Wednesday, as confirmed by school officials.
The university described him as a rising junior in the College of Engineering, residing in his on-campus apartment.
Hailing from Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Butler was not only known for his skills on the basketball court but also for being a well-liked and familiar face on campus.
The 6-foot-7 forward averaged 17.8 points and seven rebounds per game during high school.
Additionally, he earned recognition last season for his academic achievements, making it to the Coastal Athletic Association’s Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll.

Terrence Butler was survived by his parents, Terrence Sr and Dena Butler, and two sisters.
His sister Tasia, played basketball at James Madison, while his other sister, Tiara, played at Syracuse.
He was the youngest of three children and was the light of his family.
In a message from the university, they expressed their heartfelt condolences to Terrence Butler’s family, friends, and teammates, representing the entire Drexel community.
The university acknowledged that besides being a dedicated student-athlete, Terrence actively participated in various activities and organizations at Drexel, making him a cherished friend to many within the university community.
Currently, no information is available about the circumstances surrounding Butler’s death.
Eldest Sister: Tiara Butler
Born in November 1992 in Washington, DC, Tiara Sherae Butler is the eldest sibling in her family.
She attended North Point High School and completed her bachelor’s degree in interior design at Syracuse University in 2015.
In October 2018, both Tiara and her younger sister, Tasia, were inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame at their alma mater, North Point High School in Charles County, Maryland.
After graduating, Tiara pursued her entrepreneurial dreams and founded her own company, Designs By Tiara, Inc.
This company provides custom artwork and designs and hosts private paint parties, allowing Tiara to invest directly in her craft and share her creative talents with others.
Elder Sister: Taria Butler
Tasia Butler attended North Point High School and enrolled at James Madison University.
Alongside playing collegiate basketball, Tasia graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in public policy and administration in 2017.
She then pursued a master’s degree in public administration at the same university and completed it in 2019.
Moreover, she worked as a graduate assistant for the women’s varsity basketball team for over one year.
Presently, Tasia has been working as an administrative officer for the Naval Sea Systems Command since March 2023.
