Dave Mirra, an American BMX rider known for winning the most medals in BMX Freestyle at the X Games, passed away on February 4, 2016, leaving his longtime wife, Lauren, and their daughters devastated.

David Michael ‘Dave’ Mirra passed away at the untimely age of 41. He was found in his truck in Greenville, North Carolina, dead with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Authorities responded to a reported suicide and discovered his body inside his black Ford F-15 Raptor. He was posthumously diagnosed with Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE).

Dave Mirra was an amazing husband to his longtime wife, Lauren. Just hours before his tragic demise, Dave Mirra took to his Instagram to express his love for his wife, Lauren, sharing an adorable picture of him and Lauren with a sweet caption that reads “My rock! Thank god.

Lauren Nicole first met late Dave Mirra at East Carolina University, when she was in her sophomore. The couple tied the knot in February 2006 and were happily married for a decade before Dave’s untimely demise in 2016.

Furthermore, the couple welcomed their first child, daughter Madison, in late 2006 and their second child, daughter Mackenzie, in 2007.

Despite Dave Mirra’s passing, his wife, Lauren, and two daughters continue to protect his legacy and support several charitable causes in his memory, including CTE research, the Road 2 Recovert Foundation, and More Than Sport.

In 2024, Mirra’s family dedicated a permanent statue of Dave Mirra at the Jaycee Skatepark in Greenville, where he skated after moving to the area in 1995.

Dave Mirra’s wife, Lauren, and their two daughters also actively run The Dave Mirra Foundation, whose mission is to celebrate and continue the legacy of the BMX star.

The foundation encourages youth cycling and promotes mental health and suicide prevention

Dave’s wife, Lauren Mirra Everett, serves as the Co-Chair of the Dave Mirra Foundation, while his daughters, Madison and Mackenzie, serve as family board members.

In addition to serving as the Co-chair of the foundation, Lauren Mirra Everett also serves as the correspondence director for Victorious Living Ministeries, an organization that provides hope, encouragement, and life-skill tools to correctional leaders and incarcerated individuals through its magazine, broadcasts, correspondence, and on-site visits.

Lauren married Andy Everett in 2018, and the couple resides in Greenville, NC.

The Late Dave Mirra And His Wife, Lauren, Raised Their Daughters To Be Exceptional Athletes

Dave and Lauren Mirra’s daughters, Madison and Mackenzie, followed in their late father Dave Mirra’s footsteps in sports.

Their eldest daughter, Madison Mirra, currently plays Division I volleyball at East Carolina University, where she leads her team in several victories.

Madison Mirra showcased her amazing gymnastics skills for 11 years before beginning her volleyball journey at a local club, East Carolina Junior Volleyball Club.

She played five seasons with ECJVC and then transferred to Triangle Volleyball Club before heading to ECU.

Similarly, Madison Mirra played varsity volleyball at J.H. Rose, where she was ranked in the top 144 in North Carolina for one statistic, top 16 in Division 3A East for another statistic, and top 1 in Big East 3A/4A for yet another statistic.

She also won the 2023 NCHSAA Volleyball Championships 3A and graduated in 2024.

Their youngest daughter, Mackenzie Mirra, is currently a senior at J.H. Rose High School, where she plays both Varsity Tennis and Golf. She is set to graduate in 2026.

Likewise, Mackenzie was also inducted into the National Honor Society for her academic achievements.
