The Legendary Nebraska Coach Mark Brahmer and His Wife Carmen Built a Family Legacy That Launched Iowa State Tight End Ben Brahmer to Record-Breaking Stardom and Freshman All-American Honors

As Ben continues to grow with the Cyclones, his story remains rooted in Pierce and in the legacy of Mark and Carmen Brahmer.

Ben Brahmer, a standout tight end from Pierce, Nebraska, has quickly made a name for himself with the Iowa State Cyclones, starting as a freshman and earning honorable mention All-Big 12 honors.

He was also named a Freshman All-American by The Athletic. But behind every rising star is a strong family, and for Ben, that story starts with Ben Brahmer’s parents, Carmen and Mark.

A Football Legacy from Dad

Ben was born in November 2004 to Carmen and Mark Brahmer in the small town of Pierce.

His father, Mark, is a true legend in Nebraska high school football. Mark coached the Pierce Bluejays from 1995 to 2022, accumulating over 200 wins.

He led the team to four state titles and five runner-up finishes, including a perfect ending with the 2022 NSAA Class C1 State Championship.

Mark’s own roots run deep in Pierce. He was born to Russell Dean and Carolyn Brahmer and grew up with his sister Julie.

His success earned him Coach of the Year awards from the Norfolk Daily News, Omaha World-Herald, Lincoln Journal Star, and Huskerland Prep.

In 2009, he was named NCA Football Coach of the Year and served as head coach for the Shrine Bowl.

It’s no surprise Ben grew up around the game. He attended Pierce High School, where he broke a Nebraska 11-man

football state record with 11 catches for 249 yards in a single game, all on 11 targets.

Rated a three-star recruit and a top-100 wide receiver by 247Sports Composite, Ben first committed to Nebraska as a sophomore before flipping to Iowa State as a senior.

While Mark built a football dynasty, Ben Brahmer’s parents balanced family life with athletic excellence.

Ben grew up with two older sisters, Jaci and Maggie, both former volleyball players at Wayne State College.

Their mother, Carmen, attended Fairbury Jr-Sr High School and studied at Doane University.

Though she keeps a lower profile, Carmen has been a steady support in Ben’s journey.

The Brahmer household was full of competition and encouragement. With a coaching father and athletic sisters, Ben learned early what it takes to succeed.

Ben followed his own path to college stardom.

After his record-breaking high school career, he joined Iowa State, ranked as the No. 5 player in the state of Nebraska.

As a true freshman, he stepped in as the starting tight end and made an immediate impact in the Big 12.

There’s little public detail about the family’s private life, but one thing is clear: Ben Brahmer’s parents gave him the foundation to shine.

Mark passed down football wisdom and a work ethic. Carmen and his sisters added love, balance, and a competitive spirit.

As Ben continues to grow with the Cyclones, his story remains rooted in Pierce and in the legacy of Mark and Carmen Brahmer.
