As a freshman in the Griffin High Varsity team, he batted seventh in the order and hit 14 home runs on the season.

In 2006, his first attempt as a senior, Beckham hit a home run and ended the season with batting .405 and hitting five home runs, three triples, and six doubles. To this, he also added 22 runs, batted in, and stole 15 bases.

Beckham showed improvements with each coming season, and in his junior seasons, Tim batted .512, hit nine doubles, six triples, and six home runs, an improvement from his former season. Along with that, he also added 39 RBIs and stole 20 bases.

Following his stellar performances in the pitch, Beckham competed in the World Wood Bat Association 17-Under Summer Championship in Cincinnati, Ohio.

As expected, Beckham finished the tournament in the top spot among 2,000 participants.

In August 2007, Beckham grabbed the MVP Honors at the Aflac Classic in San Diego, California.

All in all, Tim closed the season with batting .409, hitting nine home runs, 15 doubles, eight triples, and 32 stolen bases against some of the best competition in the states.

During his senior year, Beckham then went to the University of Southern California but was still determined about entering the 2008 MLB Draft.

In his senior season and almost 24 games, Beckham batted .500, with five home runs, nine doubles, and three triples. To this, he also added 31 RBIs and 16 stolen bases.

Professional Career | MLB Years

At the 2008 MLB Draft, Beckham was the first to be picked, and the Rays signed him on June 19, where he received a signing bonus of $6.15 million.

After that, he played with the Princeton Rays of the Appalachian League, the Hudson Valley Renegades, the Bowling Green Hot Rods of the Midwest League, and the Charlotte Stone Crabs of the Florida State League.

Likewise, in 2011, Beckham was picked to the All-Star Futures Game along with other Tampa Bay Rays’s Hak-Ju Lee and Matt Moore.

But after testing positive for a “drug of abuse,” he was later suspended for 50 games.

Only after that he was added to the 40-man roster to be protected from the upcoming Rule 5 draft. Also, on March 15, 2013, he was optioned to AAA Durham.

Not to mention, on September 18, 2013, Beckham was promoted to the MLB and made his debut the next day as a pinch hitter against the Texas Rangers.

Similarly, Tim recorded his first career MLB hit in his only-at-bat, a single, off of Rangers pitcher Tanner Scheppers. 

Aside from making three hits, all singles, in 7 at-bats, he also scored once and drove. However, in the 2013 season, Beckham tore his anterior cruciate ligament and hence, missed the 2014 season.

Upon his return in 2015, Tim hit his first major league home runs and even closed the season after batting .222,/.274/.429.

The 2016 season was not good for him as he was demoted to Triple-A Durham after failing to hustle home from the second base in a match against the Boston Red Sox.

Nonetheless, he finished the season on a good note by batting .247/.300/.434, with five home runs and 16 RBIs in just 64 games.

The following season he showed improvements and batted .266/.303/.422 with eight home runs, 26 RBIs in his first two months.

Sadly, he also committed 20 errors for the season, making him the second-most among all American League players.

Baltimore Orioles and Seattle Mariners

On July 31, 2017, the Rays dealt Tim to the Baltimore Orioles for Tobias Myers, where he made his debut the next night.

Upon his arrival at the Orioles, Tim showed positive results; even his home run happened to be the 10,000th in Orioles’ franchise history.

In the first five games, Beckham had an average of .650 with three home runs, five RBIs, and an OPS of 2.000. Not to mention, he was picked as the AL Player of the Week.

With Orioles, he went on a 12-game hitting streak and slashed .531/.549/.939 with seven doubles, two triples, three home runs, nine RBIs, and 14 runs.

Because of his improvements, the Orioles announced that Tim would be moved to third base but was transferred to the 60-Day DL following his injury.

After that, the professional player went on and signed a one-year contract with the Seattle Mariners in early 2019.

Named as the Mariners’ Opening Day Shortstop, he made his debut against the Oakland Athletics on March 20 in Tokyo, Japan.

In his first ten games, Tim hit .410/.477/.846 with four home runs and 11 RBI. As a result, he was awarded the American League Player of the Week for the opening week of 2019.

However, on August 6, 2019, Tim was found positive for Stanozolol, a performance-enhancing substance, in violation of the MLB Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program, and was suspended for 80-games without pay.

On November 12, 2019, Tim Beckham was assigned to Estrellas Orientales, a baseball team in the Dominican Winter League.

This resulted in his season end and after he was non-tendered by Seattle, making Tim a free agent.
