Cameron Woodall, Born And Raised In Raymond, Mississippi, Was Destined For Basketball Greatness
At Raymond High School, he donned the #5 jersey, a number that held deep personal meaning.
It was the same number worn by his older brother, a talented high school basketball player at Tier High School, whose life was tragically cut short due to involvement with the wrong crowd.
Cameron’s choice to wear #5, along with a necklace bearing the number, was a heartfelt tribute to his brother’s memory.
The loss of his sibling was a deep shock to Cameron, but it filled his determination to honor his family through his passion for basketball.
His high school career earned him accolades like All-District First Team and Basketball All-State Team.
After graduating in 2018, he took his skills to Copiah-Lincoln Community College before transferring to Grambling State University, where he majored in Criminal Justice.
Ultimately, he found his home at Tougaloo College, playing as a forward for the Tougaloo Bulldogs in the NCAA’s Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC).
In 2021, Cameron was named GCAC Player of the Week, and his trophy case boasted honors like 2x All-GCAC 2nd Team and MACJC 2nd Team All-State.
Nicknamed “Big Cam” for his commanding stature and energetic personality, Cameron was more than an athlete.
He was a friend, a brother, and a beacon of joy. Tougaloo Athletics described him as having a “larger-than-life presence” and a “kind-hearted spirit.”
His influence spread beyond the scoreboard, leaving a memorable mark on everyone he met.
Whether he was dunking on opponents or sharing a laugh with teammates, Cameron’s passion and warmth were infectious.
Stephanie Foster, who met Cameron at Raymond High School in 2016, recalled his extraordinary talent and humble demeanor.
“Raymond High has been home to many great basketball stars over the years, and Cameron was truly one of them. His passion for the game was evident every time he stepped on the court. After high school, he continued to shine as a student-athlete at Tougaloo College.
