Tragedy on I-81: Fall Branch Athlete Mason Childers Remembered After Fatal Crash

Mason Childers, a standout athlete from Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away in a tragic car accident at the 9-mile marker on I-81 at 4:30 pm.

He played basketball and baseball at Fall Branch.

Emergency crews, including the Morristown Emergency and Rescue Squad, Morristown-Hamblen Emergency Medical Service, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol, responded to the scene.

The Hamblen County Sheriff’s Office and Casper’s Wrecker Service also assisted. Units remained on the scene until approximately 6:51 p.m.

Further details regarding the cause of the accident have not yet been released by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, which is leading the investigation.

Childers’ passing has sent a wave of grief through the community, where he was remembered as a promising young man.
