On July 5, 2025, gun violence took the life of 15-year-old Daydrian Raymond Brown in Tucson, Arizona.

A vibrant teenager with a great smile and impressive soccer skills was taken from his family and community far too soon.

The tragedy unfolded in the 5300 block of East 26th Street, leaving his parents, Dahlia Brown and Rene Guevara, and his siblings shattered by grief.

Born on September 24, 2009, Daydrian was a bright light in the lives of those who knew him.

Raised alongside his siblings, Dominic and “Stinky,” he grew up with love and support from his devoted parents.

Daydrian was a standout midfielder for the FC Tucson Youth Soccer Club, proudly wearing the number 17 jersey for the ECNL Boys team.

His skill, dedication, and sportsmanship made him a beloved figure on and off the field.

At Cienega High School, where he was a student, Daydrian was admired for his respectful nature and his ability to inspire those around him.

Just weeks before his passing, Daydrian’s talent earned him an invitation to a prestigious soccer camp in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he had the chance to train and potentially play with the West Region Team.

His father, Rene, had set up a GoFundMe to help cover the costs of airfare and lodging, writing,

“his is a big accomplishment, and a little help can take him so far… Any help you give will take him a long way on his journey as this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

The fundraiser, with a modest goal of $450, reflected Daydrian’s humility and the family’s hope for his bright future.

The Night That Changed Everything

According to the Tucson Police Department (TPD), the tragedy occurred just after midnight on July 6, 2025.

Officers and Tucson Fire Department personnel responded to multiple reports of a shooting in a residential neighborhood.

When they arrived, they found Daydrian lying in the street, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Despite the efforts of officers and paramedics to save him, Daydrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

TPD’s preliminary investigation revealed that a party was taking place at a nearby house that night.

A group from the party gathered in the street, where a verbal argument broke out between Daydrian and an unidentified suspect.

The situation escalated tragically when the suspect fired a gun, striking Daydrian.

The shooter fled the scene and has not yet been located.

Homicide detectives and the Crime Scene Unit are actively investigating, but details remain limited as the case is in its early stages.

Attendees were encouraged to wear green, a color that symbolized Daydrian’s vibrant spirit and his love for soccer.

The event, dubbed #PlayForDay, was a chance for the community to celebrate his life and support his grieving family.

Ary Marie, a family member, shared details of the vigil:

“Last night, due to a senseless act of gun violence, Daydrian was taken from our family way too soon. Please join our family and his soccer family tomorrow night as they host #PlayForDay… Please keep his mom Dahlia Brown, Rene, Dominic & Stinky in your prayers.”
