Dr. Gerald Finerman lived in Beverly Hills with his wife, Sharon Stevenson.

A pioneering orthopedic surgeon and longtime head team physician for the UCLA Athletics Department, Dr. Gerald Finerman, died on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 86.

UCLA Athletics took to their official Facebook handle to announce the tragic news. They wrote,

UCLA Athletics mourns the loss of longtime head team physician 𝑫𝒓. 𝑮𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒍𝒅 𝑭𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒎𝒂𝒏, who served the Bruins in that capacity from 1971-2013. He passed away on Saturday, May 3, at age 86.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, Gerald attended the University of Pennsylvania and trained at Johns Hopkins University.

He served as UCLA’s head team physician from 1971 to 2013, working a 43-year span in Westwood that saw 85 athletic teams win NCAA championships.

Gerald also served as the Chief Medical Officer for the Olympic Village in Los Angeles in 1984.

Among his colleagues, Dr. Finerman was regarded as one of the country’s most skilled and respected orthopedic surgeons.

His professional legacy at UCLA was tied to the people he recruited and the program he built.

Starting with Dr. David McAllister and Dr. Sharon Hame, Dr. Finerman committed to building a sports medicine program that led in both science and care.

Dr. Gerald Finerman Married Sharon Stevenson After Separating From His First Wife, Jane Finerman

Dr. Gerald Finerman met Jane Finerman at the University of Pennsylvania in 1959 and tied the knot after several years of dating.

Jane was the daughter of Dr. Irvin and Dorothy Stein of Philadelphia. She attended the Friends’ Select School in Philadelphia and cherished her summers at Tripp Lake Camp in Poland, Maine.

However, the couple separated after several years. The reason behind their separation has not been revealed yet.

Then, Jane tied the knot with Carl Hutman, with whom she spent her last 14 years. On Sunday, March 25, 2012, Jane tragically passed away at 74.

Services for Jane were held on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at 3 pm at Temple Emanu-El, 5th Avenue at 65th Street, New York.

On the other hand, Dr. Gerald tied the knot with Sharon Stevenson in 1994. Sadly, their married life ended after 30 years following the tragic death of Dr. Gerald Finerman.

Sharon has avoided the media spotlight, so little information about her life is known.

Dr. Gerald Finerman Had Six Children With His First Wife, Jane Finerman

Dr. Gerald Finerman and Jane Finerman had four daughters, Wendy, Karen, Leslie, and Stacey, and two sons, Mark and Scott Finerman.

Karen Finerman graduated from Beverly Hills High School in 1983. In 1987, she graduated from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

She is a board member of the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research and a trustee of Montefiore Medical Center.

Karen has four children (two sets of twins) and is married to Lawrence E. Golub, who manages Gloub Capital, a credit assets manager.

Jane’s second daughter, Wendy, is an American film producer of nearly a dozen feature films. She was formerly married to producer Mark Canton and is now married to David Peterson.

Gerald’s son, Mark Finerman, is the founder and CEO of LoanCore Capital, founded in June 2008. He has over 30 years of experience in commercial real estate finance.

He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences and his Master of Science in Finance from the Marshall School of Business.

Mark tied the knot with Lisa Torell on April 30, 1994.

Leslie Finerman’s LinkedIn profile shows that she founded Art Funding Solutions and was a structured credit investment analyst at BlueMountain Capital Management for over five years.

Leslie married Sean Goodrich, co-founder and managing director of Aether Investment Partners.

On the other hand, Stacey Finerman attended the Wharton School and is currently the vice president of Marqueta, Inc.

Currently, they are mourning the tragic death of their supportive and devoted father, Dr. Gerald Finerman.
