A devastating murder-suicide on the night of July 4 has left the tight-knit Fort Thomas community in shock and mourning.
Authorities confirmed that 51-year-old Harold Wayne Hall was fatally shot during what police have described as a domestic-related murder-suicide on Shawnee Avenue.
According to the Fort Thomas Police Department, officers responded to a call reporting a domestic dispute around 11:30 p.m.
Upon arriving at the scene, they found two adult males suffering from gunshot wounds.
One man was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
The Hamilton County Coroner’s Office identified that individual as Harold Wayne Hall, a Newport resident known to many simply as “Wayne.”
The other man, believed to be the shooter, died at the scene from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police have not released his identity.
While officials continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the shooting, they confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The Fort Thomas Police Department is still working to piece together the sequence of events that turned a holiday evening into a nightmare for two families and an entire community.

“Wayne wasn’t just my dad’s friend—he was my Uncle Wayne,” wrote Cody Ross.
“He was the life of the party and the open heart whenever you needed it. He loved my family as much as we loved him.”

Hall’s childhood friend Yvonne Blanton Ross recalled his devotion to his family and his newfound joy in being a grandfather.
She spoke of his enduring faith and renewed spiritual journey in recent years alongside his wife Tabatha, whom many are now rallying to support.
“He truly loved her and their life together,” she wrote.
“He always had a kind word, a helping hand, and a love for bluegrass and old-school music. To say he will be missed is an understatement.”
