A former player and current head coach, Major Applewhite, has been married to Julie Applewhite, a licensed realtor and philanthropist, for 21 years.
Major Lee Applewhite, born July 26, 1978, is the head football coach for the University of South Alabama, a role he assumed in 2024.
He previously served as head coach at the University of Houston (2017–2018) and held coaching roles at Texas, Syracuse, Rice, and Alabama.
Applewhite played quarterback for the Texas Longhorns from 1998 to 2001, earning All-Big 12 honors.
He set several school records, including the longest pass play (97 yards) and most passing yards in a game (473).
In 1999, Applewhite won the Big 12 Co-Offensive Player of the Year award.
He began coaching in 2003, gaining recognition as an offensive strategist with key roles as coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
Likewise, Applewhite led South Alabama to a 7–6 record in his first season as head coach.

As a coach’s wife, Julie experienced numerous relocations, which inspired her love for real estate.
She became a licensed realtor in Alabama in 2007 and re-entered the field in 2021 after working in recruiting and client relations for a major law firm.
Julie is a realtor at LLB&B, Inc. Real Estate in Mobile, Alabama, where her expertise and personal experience help clients find their ideal homes.
In addition to her successful career, she is committed to giving back to society. Julie supports the Box of Balloons organization, which provides birthday celebrations for children in need.
Similarly, she is also involved with the Dumas Wesley Community Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving vulnerable populations.
Julie and Major Applewhite have two children, Lila and Nash, and together, they embrace a family-focused lifestyle.

- In February 2013, Major Applewhite admitted to a past inappropriate relationship with a student during the 2009 Fiesta Bowl trip.
- Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds addressed the incident, stating Applewhite engaged in a one-time inappropriate, consensual relationship with an adult student.
- Applewhite’s salary was frozen from February 2009 until January 2010, and he was mandated to undergo professional counseling. The matter was considered resolved by the university.
