USSSA Softball Coach Harley Wayne Caulder, 73, Passed Away, Leaving His Wife of 42 Years

Harley Wayne Caulder, a former USSSA Softball coach, passed away at his home at 73, surrounded by his loving family, on September 8, 2025.

He was passionate about sports and played softball in his younger years.

Harley Wayne Caulder was a man who built an impactful life in his community, dedicating himself to his work, his hobbies, and, most importantly, his family.

He was a graduate of Wallace High School and earned his HVAC-Refrigeration certification from Chesterfield-Marlboro Technical College.

He spent his career as a dedicated employee of Pee Dee Food Service before retiring. He was also a faithful and active member of the Lower Macedonia Baptist Church.

Wayne was an avid Clemson Tigers fan with a lifelong passion for sports. He played softball in his youth and coached USSSA Softball teams.

His interests extended to the great outdoors, and he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He played a key role in founding the C&C Still Hunting Club.

Moreover, he turned his enjoyment of gardening into a successful operation, Caulder’s Produce, for over twelve years. He was the president of the Cheraw Farmers’ Market at the time of his passing.

Harley Wayne Caulder’s Family Mourns the Tragic Loss

Harley Wayne Caulder, the son of the late Hoover and Grace Roscoe Caulder, was born on April 5, 1952, in Wallace, South Carolina.

He was a beloved husband, father, and pillar of the Cheraw community.

Wayne was a lifelong resident of Cheraw.

He was a devoted family man who found his greatest joy in the presence of his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

His 42-year marriage to his beloved wife, Joye, proved his enduring love, partnership, and faith. He was a man of steadfast character, renowned for his diligence, gentle nature, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.

A service to celebrate Harley’s life and legacy will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

The service will be conducted by Pastor Dr. Lindsey Powell, with a heartfelt eulogy to be delivered by his daughter-in-law, Karen Caulder.

Moreover, a musical tribute will be provided by his granddaughter, Ashley Caulder Clark. Following the service, Wayne will be laid to rest in the Lower Macedonia Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, before the service at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be gathering at the homeplace, 6587 W. Market Street extension, Cheraw, SC.

In addition to his parents, Wayne’s sisters, Mary Ladd and Sheila Rivers, and his brother, David Caulder, preceded him ni death.

Furthermore, his loving wife, Joye Threadgill Caulder; sons, Austin and Garrett, daughter, Daniele Richardson; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren survive him.

The Caulder family expressed their profound gratitude to the staff at the Duke Cancer Center of Scotland Memorial Hospital for their extraordinary care and support during Wayne’s illness.

Instead of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Wayne’s honor to Lower Macedonia Memorial Gardens, 5267 Teals Mill Road, Chesterfield, SC 29709.
