Valparaiso, Indiana Community Mourns Longtime Youth Coach and Former University of Chicago Football Standout Jonathan “Jon” Carr, 41, Survived by Wife Brittany and Son Beckett

The Valparaiso, Indiana, community is mourning the untimely death of beloved resident and longtime coach, Jonathan Michael Carr.

Jon Carr passed away unexpectedly on December 31, 2025, at the age of 41, leaving his family and loved ones devastated. No details surrounding his untimely death is yet disclosed.

Born on December 5, 1985, in Joliet, Illinois, to parents Mike and Marliou Carr, Jon Carr touched the lives of many with his amazing athletic skills andh is journey as a proud coach.

Jon began his athletic journey at Minooka Community High School, where he was a standout football player who led his team to several victories.

He further continued his athletic career attending Univesity of Chicago, where he played for the men’s football team, winning several honorable titles.

Although Jonathan didn’t pursue his career in sports professionally, he continued to contribute to the sports community as a remarkable youth coach, guiding numerous young athletes.

He served as a beloved coach at the Valparaiso Pop Warner organization, the Valparaiso Americans baseball program, and most recently, the NWI Hustle basketball program.

Jon’s love and passion for sports were immense, and he had great joy being part of the youth sports program in the Indiana community.

Jonathan ‘Jon’ Carr Was Proud Employee At Fannie Mae

In addition to being an amazing coach, the late Jon Carr was also thriving in his career, working for over 17 years at Fannie Mae.

He began his journey at Fannie Mae as a senior asset manager, equity and structured assets, in the Washington D.C. metro area in 2008 after graduating from the University of Chicago with a major in economics.

Furthermore, after serving his position for seven years, Jon was promoted to Portfolio Risk Manager in 2015, and from 2019 until his recent passing, he served as the senior team manager at Fannie Mae.

Prior to that, he served as an intern at Nuveen Investments and UBS Wealth Management.

Jonathan Carr’s contribution to the sports community and his kind nature will always remain in the hearts of his loved ones.

Many of his loved ones are paying tribute to the late Jon Carr and extending their heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult time.

Jon Carr leaves behind his college sweetheart and long-time wife, Brittany, and his beloved son, Beckett, who was all of Jon’s heart.

Jon’s son Beckett is following in his father’s footsteps in football and plays for the youth football program.

In addition to his wife and son, Jon Carr is also survived by his parents, Mike and Marilou Carr, grandmother, Phyliss Carr, second parents, Terry and Kelly Bunch, sisters, Mallory Carr, Dianna (Ben) Bunch Hogan, and Breally Bunch; nephews, Brennan and Bryan; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and the entire family.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Andrew Carr.

A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, January 8th, 2026, from 2 to 6 PM at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso, with a Celebration of Life Ceremony beginning at 6 PM.

At 7 PM, there will be a gathering at the American Legion, 4 Monroe Street, Valparaiso. The family has requested loved ones to bring their favorite Jon story to share.

A mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Minooka, Illinois, 303 W St Mary’s St, on Saturday, January 10th, 2026, at 12:00 PM, with lunch to follow.

In lieu of flowers memorial donation may be made to help establish a scholarship fund for Jon’s son, Beckett, at a GoFundMe page. Per Jon’s wishes, scholarships will be established in his name for Valpo Pop Warner and the Valparaiso Americans.
