Placerville, California, is coming together in a powerful show of unity and compassion as the Diamond Dirtbags baseball community rallies around 15-year-old Owen Britton, who is preparing for a medical procedure related to a rare heart condition.
Behind Owen every step of the way are his parents, Chelsea and Chris Britton, whose love, strength, and advocacy have defined his journey since birth.
From hospital rooms to baseball fields, they have stood beside their son through every challenge, celebrating milestones and facing setbacks with grace.
Within the Diamond Dirtbags program, the focus is often on development, teamwork, and competition. But moments like this reveal the deeper purpose of youth sports — building families that step up when life presents challenges far greater than any game.
Owen, who plays for the Diamond Dirtbags baseball team, was born with a rare heart condition that required complex medical care from an early age.
He is now preparing for another important procedure at Stanford Medical Center, bringing renewed hope but also emotional and financial strain for his family.
Chelsea and Chris are widely known within the community as the first to offer help, encouragement, or support to others in need.
Whether through the baseball world or beyond, the Britton family has consistently shown compassion and generosity. Now, as they focus entirely on Owen’s health, the community is stepping up to support the family that has so often supported others.
This is not the first time the Brittons have faced a moment like this. In 2016, when Owen was just three and a half years old, he underwent a major heart surgery that lasted nearly eight hours. Prior to that, he already undergone two major heart surgeries and bravely continued to fight.
The procedure was followed by complications that required Owen to remain on a ventilator to protect his airway — a critical step in his recovery.
Owen came off the ventilator the next day and progressed slowly, astonishing doctors and loved ones alike with his determination.
Though weak and exhausted, he continued to fight — supported constantly by the love and encouragement of his parents, who never left his side.
That same devotion continues today. As Owen prepares for his upcoming procedure, Chelsea and Chris are focused on one thing: their son’s recovery.
To help ease the burden, the Diamond Dirtbags have launched a fundraising effort to assist with medical costs, travel, and lodging in Palo Alto, allowing the family to remain close to Owen throughout his treatment.
The Diamond Dirtbags organization is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and all donations are tax-deductible. Supporters can contribute by scanning the QR code provided or visiting www.diamonddirtbags.org.
As Placerville stands behind Owen Britton and his parents, the message is clear: this is more than baseball. It’s about family, love, and a community determined to support a young athlete and the parents who have fought for him since day one.
