Despite two previous unsuccessful marriages, Verne Lundquist, aka the Golden Throat, is now happily living with his third wife, Nancy.

Known for his long career with CBS Sports, Merton Laverne Lundquist Jr. is a retired American sportscaster.

Born on July 17, 1940, in Duluth, Minnesota, he has covered a wide range of sports, including NFL, NBA, college football, and golf.

Moreover, he is well-known for his iconic call of Tiger Woods’ chip-in birdie at the 2005 Masters Tournament.

Besides sports commentary, he has appeared in a few movies, such as Happy Gilmore (1996), The Last Boy Scout (1991), and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982).

Verne Lundquist Continues To Share A Strong Bond With His Wife, Nancy

Verne Lundquist is married to Nancy, and they have been together since April 8, 1982.

They are known to be a loving and supportive couple. Verne often speaks highly of Nancy in interviews.

In a 2013 interview with Richard Deitsch, he shared a story about how he met his loving wife, stating:

We met in a bar — and I hasten to add it was an upscale bar in Dallas. It was a place called Arthur’s. I walked in after I did the 10 o’clock news (at WFAA-TV in Dallas) and I just didn’t want to go home. Nancy and her date were at the bar and her date recognized me from local television and invited me over to have a drink. He introduced me to his date and her name was Nancy Miller. It was their first date, a blind date…

Before Nancy, he married Patricia from 1967 to 1971. Their marriage lasted only a few years. After the divorce from his first wife, he married Kathy Vernon the same year.

However, his second marriage lasted until 1980. Likewise, the reason for these divorces has not been publicly disclosed.

According to some reports, Verne Lundquist is also a proud father with two daughters, Kelli and Vaughn.

Additionally, he is known as a devoted family man, and his love and dedication to his wife and daughters are evident in his words about them.

Verne officially retired from broadcasting college football games after calling the Army-Navy Game.

After retiring from his long career on December 10, 2016, he has enjoyed his time with Nancy.

Even after stepping back from the field, he remains connected to the sports world.

He recently announced that the 2024 Masters would be his final tournament, marking the end of his 40-year tenure at Augusta.

While he plans to take a break from broadcasting, he mentioned that he and Nancy will continue to visit Augusta National, stating:

This place and the people who run it, and the patrons who visit it − it is the best-run golf tournament in the world, on the best manicured golf course in the world, with the best patrons in the world, I know that Nancy and I are coming back, I’m gonna let it breathe for a year.
