Mike DeBartolo, a longtime Washington Nationals employee who most recently served as senior vice president and assistant general manager, has been making headlines following his recent promotion to interim GM.

The Washington Nationals have fired general manager Mike Rizzo and manager Dave Martinez, the team announced on Sunday, July 6, 2025.

With the departure of Mike Rizzo and Dave Martinez, Mike DeBartolo, who was serving as the assistant general manager, has been named interim GM and will now oversee all aspects of baseball operations, including the upcoming MLB Draft.

Furthermore, while Mike DeBartolo continues to excel in his sports career, the one person he credits the most is his longtime wife, Kate O’Rourke DeBartolo, who encouraged him to pursue his career in baseball.

I went on faith. I had support from my wife and my family, said DeBartolo.

Mike DeBartolo mentioned that it was his wife, Kate, also a Nationals fan, who encouraged him to get into baseball, ultimately leading to his dream job with the Washington Nationals.

Both natives of Boston, Mike DeBartolo and Kate O’Rourke, tied the knot on July 13, 2013, in Boston, Massachusetts, in front of family and friends, and have been happily married for over a decade.

Mike and Kate are also proud parents of a son named William ‘Will’ DeBartolo.

While both Mike DeBartolo and his longtime wife, Kate, prefer to maintain a private life and are not very active on social media, they stand by each other’s side as constant supporters through all the good and bad times.

Mike DeBartolo’s Wife, Kate O’Rourke DeBartolo, Is a Longtime Employee of The Institute for Healthcare Improvement

Kate O’Rourke DeBartolo is more than just a wife to Mike DeBartolo; she has been thriving in her career, working with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), a nonprofit organization that has been supporting healthcare professionals since 2007.

She joined IHI as the field coordinator eighteen years ago and was quickly promoted to national network manager.

Similarly, after serving in her position as a national network manager for over five years, Kate became the senior manager of IHI, and after two years, she became the director.

Since 2018, Kate DeBartolo has been serving as a senior director at IHI and leads The Conversation Project, founded in 2010. The Conversation Project offers free tools, guidance, and resources to help start conversations with those in need.

Furthermore, Kate earned her BA from Wellesley College in 2006 and began her career working as a program assistant at The California Endowment for over a year before joining IHI.

In addition to her career, Kate is an avid music lover and sang a cappella in high school and college. She was a member of TZE, an art and music group at Wellesley College, and was also a part of Tupelos, Wellesley’s pop group.
