Water Polo Player Lucas Osuna, 15, Passes Away, Leaving Behind His Parents, Mike and Jesenia!

During the Ransom Everglades Invitational tournament, Belen Jesuit Preparatory School water polo player Lucas Osuna passed away on Friday, March 28, 2025.

Lucas Osuna, a 15-year-old sophomore, is survived by his parents, Mike Osuna and Jesenia Chavarry; a sister, Kalia Osuna; and a brother, Nash Osuna.

His parents, Mike and Jesenia, married in 2017; however, they have been together for a long time.

Osuna’s father, Mike, is a firefighter at Palm Beach County Fire Rescue. Likewise, he also founded the Train 8NINE.

Mike studied organizational communication at the University of Central Florida.

Lucas, affectionately nicknamed “Thor” by his father, Mike Osuna, was a standout athlete and beloved member of the Belen Jesuit Wolverines water polo team.

Reportedly, he collapsed during the tournament held at Ransom Everglades School in Coconut Grove, though the exact circumstances and cause of his death have yet to be disclosed.

Lucas was a bright and kind student who joined Belen Jesuit in the sixth grade during the 2020-21 school year.

It was confirmed by Belen Jesuit on late Friday around 3 p.m.

Following the exposure of the news, Gladiators’ Water Polo Club shared a Facebook post featuring Lucas, writing, “Miami stands with you in this time of unimaginable loss.

Lucas’s father, Mike, took to Facebook Saturday evening to share his grief. He wrote

It is with a heavy heart that we share the unfathomable loss of our beloved son, Lucas Michael Osuna aka Thor. In true Superhero fashion, he embodied perseverance, determination and overcoming all the obstacles life threw his way. In moments of tragedy, our 8N Family has proven to unite in prayer, compassion, faith, and above all, Love.
We ask that you take a moment to hug your loved ones a little tighter and keep us in your thoughts.🤍

In response to the tragedy, the Belen Jesuit faith community united for a prayer service on Saturday morning.

A Meal Train fundraiser organized for the Osuna family raised over $56,000 by Saturday evening.
