As soon as the news came out, it was criticized by multiple sports analysts and journalists.

It has caused huge amounts of controversy in the internet sports space.

Drageset’s Scholarship Outrage

Interestingly, many renowned faces in the sports world have hit out at the University of Washington for awarding a transgender athlete a women’s scholarship.

It is important to note that, the twelve scholarships are usually extended to a course of four years, with only two to three being offered per year.

Notably, former NCAA swimmer Riley Gaines expressed her aversion toward Drageset, accusing her of stripping away an opportunity meant for female athletes.

In her recent post on X, she also advised the University of Washington to revoke the scholarship.

She posted her outrage on X saying:

“Male takes women’s volleyball scholarship at @UW… a soon-to-be Big 10 school. Stealing the already few opportunities for women at the collegiate level. How can he be proud? “

On top of this, Riley has consistently stood against the idea of transgender women participating in women’s sports.

Similar to Riley, Alejandro Avila, journalist of the Outkick has also lashed out at Drageset accusing her of “stealing opportunities” from women.

In his latest article, he expressed his disappointment at the scholarship:

“A 6-foot high school boy has reportedly been offered a scholarship to join the University of Washington’s women’s volleyball team.”

Boasting a great vertical leap on an already lowered net, Drageset is playing like a man amongst girls.”

It is clear to see that this move has stirred up a lot of controversy. Neither the University of Washington nor Drageset has come out with any response on the matter as of yet.

It will be intriguing to see how this story develops in the upcoming months.
