Since then, there have been rumors of him being shown the door. But on Tuesday morning, it was confirmed that the 76ers want to part ways with him.

MVP Joel Embiid wasn’t any match to Jayson Tatum’s Celtic side in Game 7. Reports have even stated Rivers had lost players’ faith, including star man James Harden.

With NBA coaches being fired one by one, it is to be seen whether we will see all of them next season or not.

Where Is Doc Rivers Going? 76ers Coach Fired

The morning of May 16 began with the news of the 76ers coach, Doc Rivers being fired. The Senior ESPN reporter, Adrian Wojnarowski, was the first to report the breaking news on Twitter.

And soon after Adrian hit the tweet button, some 76ers fans were in the mood for celebration. After all, they had seen their team lose three consecutive Eastern Conference semifinals.

The chop was coming sooner or later. Some even predicted it last year after the 76ers lost out in the same position to Miami Heat and a year before to Atlanta Hawks.

But now the question on everybody’s lips is where will the future Hall of Fame coach next go?

The Next Team For Doc Rivers?

The veteran coach hasn’t made any comments about his firing. In fact, on Sunday, Rivers said he expects to return for the 2023 season, as reported by Inquirer

Rivers said, “Yeah, I think I’ve got two years left (on my contract).” But it looks like it didn’t matter to higher-ups of the 76ers’ management.

The initial reaction on Twitter is that the veteran coach might take a break from NBA. He is the third coach to be fired this postseason after Milwaukee fired Mike Budenholzer and Phoneix Suns fired Monty Williams.

Some on social media have made bold predictions that the Suns might swoop in for the veteran coach. Some Twitter users have even joked it’s time for Rivers to join an overseas team.

What Went Wrong For The 76ers?

With a player like Joel Embiid on their side, the 76ers were expected to go even further this season. But things went downhill against the Celtics.

Some reports have even said James Harden didn’t favor Doc Rivers. During an interview, when asked about his relationship with Rivers, Harden said, “Our relationship is OK.”

Both Harden and Embiid had performances to forget against the Celtics. Reports last night have even stated that Harden wants to return to Houston Rockets.
