His father was a football coach while his mother used to coach the girl’s volleyball team. 

Rocky Lombardi was born on June 30, 1998, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He is an American football quarterback for the Northern Illinois Huskies.

Lombardi attended Valley High School in Clive, Iowa, where he grew up. He was regarded as a three-star recruit during his high school days.

Which is why he has a lot of options to pick as his college. But ultimately he ended up choosing the Michigan State Spartans.

Lombardi was redshirted his first year but was named Scout Team Offensive Player of the Week in 2017. 

Later, he declared his intention to enter the transfer portal on December 18, 2020. He said that he planned to transfer to Northern Illinois on December 27, 2020.

In the 2020 season, he was named a Manning Award Star of the Week, a Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award Great 8, and a Manning Award National Quarterback of the Week.

Who Are Rocky Lombardi Parents Tony And Kari? 

Rocky was born into the household of his parents Tony and Kari. We must say that he has pretty solid genetics when it comes to sports.

He has continued the family tradition of football from his father’s side. Rocky’s father Tony is a former football player himself and a coach too to top it off. 

Tony E. Lombardi was born on January 29, 1962, in Park Forest, Illinois. He graduated from Rich East High School in Park Forest, Illinois in 1980.

He used to play as a tailback during his high school football days. Furthermore, Tony was a running back for the Arizona State University Sun Devils from 1980 to 1983.

During his time there, he was able to earn a varsity letter in four years.

After going undrafted in the NFL Draft in 1984, Lombardi signed as a free agent with the Chicago Bears. However, he did not make the team’s roster. 

But that did not stick with him as he immediately moved up to this alma matter’s coaching position. Tony went on to have a long and fruitful coaching career of around three decades. 

Tony faced a lot of highs and lows throughout his career but he was able to guide his children to become amazing athletes. 

Additionally, Rocky’s mother is also no stranger to the world of sports and coaching. She had a fabulous career as a volleyball coach.

Kari attended the Lakeville High School and later went on to study at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Both of his mother and father have worked together previously as football and volleyball coach at the Washington High School.

Grandfather Bob Was Also A Coach

Rocky’s grandfather Bob was a well-established football coach. People call him as someone who established the legacy of football in his family lines. 

Bob was born on June 3, 1938, and passed away on May 28, 2021. He was the University of Chicago’s head football coach for three seasons, from 1976 to 1978.

He met his wife, Melinda, at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, where he was a football coach and athletic director’s daughter.

This may have made it easier for him to quickly gain ranks in the world of football. In 1961, he began his career as an assistant football coach at Homewood-Flossmoor High School.

Bob was also an economics and math teacher there. Later, they elevated him to the position of head football coach at Homewood-Flossmoor in 1967.

In 1976, Lombardi took over as head football coach at the University of Chicago, succeeding his father-in-law.

He was also appointed associate professor in the Department of Physical Education at the institution.
