A graduate of Cathedral High School, Johnson Jr grew up with his mother in Venice, California, after his parents’ separation. During his high school days, Johnson Jr was regarded as one of the best wide receiver prospects on the West Coast.

Chad Johnson Jr announced his commitment to Arizona State in 2018, two years before enrolling in the program. He finished his senior season with 51 receptions for 761 yards and five touchdowns in ten games.

For the majority of his childhood, Chad grew up with his mother. He would only visit his father a few weeks each summer. The father-son would spend time at his Miami Beach mansion.
Despite, Chad being a standout athlete in high school, LaRhonda kept an eye out for his academic performance. During Chad’s senior year in high school, LaRhonda made him sit out the baseball season to focus on academics.
During her interview, LaRhonda said she wanted CJ Jr to learn from his dad’s mistakes and make education his No.1 priority. She stated Chad Sr had a difficult childhood, but CJ Jr doesn’t, so there shouldn’t be an excuse to fail.
LaRhonda lives in Los Angeles, California, and is married to Terry Covington. After dating for ten years, the couple tied the knot on October 7, 2017.
