Ikaika Malloe Wikipedia- Since becoming the UW student assistant coach in 1997, Ikaika Malloe has come a long way. He returned to his alum in 2016 and was their co-defensive coordinator till 2021.
Malloe, age 49, has been elevated as UCLA’s defensive coordinator by Chip Kelly. He becomes Bruin’s fourth coach at the position in as many years.

The Hawaii native fulfills the role left by D’Anton Lynn, who was hired by USC. In the LA Bowl victory over Boise State, 35-22, Ikaika was the interim defensive coordinator. In 2023, the Bruins finished as a top-10 defense, allowing only 301.5 yards per game and only allowing 25 touchdowns.
Chip Kelly praised his latest defensive coordinator’s talent of developing NFL talent on the field and excellent young men off it. Malloe previously worked at Yales and was the outside linebackers coach before he saw a growth in his responsibilities.
Defensive Coordinator Ikaika Malloe Wikipedia
UCLA Defensive Coordinator Ikaika Malloe hails from Hawaii and graduated from Kamehameha School before joining the University of Washington.
Malloe was attached to football and loved the game. But in high school, his size held him back. As a sophomore, he was only allowed to punt. But his dad, Kimo, was his biggest motivator, and two years later, he turned into a varsity star.
He earned four varsity letters as a safety and outside linebacker and graduated from UW in 1997 with a degree in sociology. His coaching career also began at UW, where he was their program coordinator. Malloe was a graduate assistant coach on the 2000 Rose Bowl Team.

Until 2000, Malloe worked as a program coordinator before joining Western Illinois as a special teams coordinator.
In 2003, he was involved in a scandal with the NCAA and reported to them that he had attempted to organize office pools for the NCAA basketball tournament.
He worked at Illinois for two years before joining UTEP in 2004. Ikaika returned to Hawaii as a special teams coordinator, but only for a year, and then joined Yale as a defensive coordinator.
He worked at Yale for three years and returned to Washington in 2016. During the time between Yale and Washington, Ikaika worked at Utah State and Portland State.
At Washington, Malloe coached the defensive line for three years before being promoted to co-defensive coordinator and later in 2021 as the co-defensive coordinator/outside linebackers.
Malloe joined UCLA Bruins in 2022, coaching linebackers and serving as a special teams coordinator.
The Football Coach Ikaika Malloe Family
The football coach, Ikaika Malloe, and his wife, Tara Malloe, have been together since their days at UW. Tara is also a graduate of the University of Washington.
The couple tied the knot on July 14, 2001, and in 2022, the football coach shared a sweet post to celebrate their 21st wedding anniversary. Ikaika shared a picture from 1997 framed in his office.
He wrote, ” This pic is in my office to remind me where we started. From then (1997) till now seems like a blur. I remember brainstorming how to make her MINE like it was yesterday!”

Ikaia shares four kids with Tara- two sons and two daughters. His son, Isaiah Malloe, is a defensive back at the University of Hawaii. Isaiah was rated a three-star recruit by 247Sports and was redshirted in 2022.
During his senior year at Kennedy Catholic High School, Isaiah set a single-season school record for tackles (165) and interceptions (8). He is also a four-time all-league selection at defensive backs and as a returner.
Ikaika’s other son, Jordan, has kept himself away from the football field. The coach’s eldest daughter, Taylor Malloe, is engaged to Benjamin Gaoteote, and last month, the couple announced they were expecting a baby boy in March.
Ikaika and Tara also have a little daughter named Sloane, who turned four last year on March 30.
