Tom McCarthy is an American sports broadcaster best known for his work as the play-by-play announcer for Philadelphia Phillies television broadcasts.

He was born in 1986 in Brick, New Jersey, and graduated from Brick Memorial High School, also in Brick, New Jersey.

In 1990, he earned his degree from Trenton State College (now known as The College of New Jersey).

While at Trenton State, McCarthy was associated with the Phi Gamma Chi chapter of Alpha Chi Rho fraternity.

He has had a successful career, including a five-season stint with the Philadelphia Phillies as a radio play-by-play voice and pre-game and post-game radio host.

Before that, he served as the play-by-play announcer for the Double-A Trenton Thunder for six seasons.

Since 2014, McCarthy has further contributed to select NFL, NBA, and college basketball games on CBS.

Patrick McCarthy, the eldest son of Tom McCarthy, was born in 1995 and is currently 28 years old. Recently, he joined the New York Mets radio broadcast team after being hired by the organization.

Before this role, he served as the pre-and postgame host for WCBS and filled in for game broadcasts when the primary announcer, Howie Rose, was unavailable.

Before his time with the Mets, McCarthy gained experience calling games for the Triple-A Lehigh Valley team, an affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Additionally, he has contributed to play-by-play coverage for St. Joseph’s men’s and women’s basketball on the A10 Network. He has also worked as a spotter for CBS Sports and Westwood One, covering NFL and NCAA basketball games.

While studying at The College of New Jersey, he pursued a communication studies major, specializing in television, radio, and film.

Moreover, he served as a broadcaster during his time at the college.

Pat McCarthy, the radio broadcaster for the Mets, was involved in a car accident while jogging, which led to him undergoing surgery.

The news was initially revealed during Game 7 of the NLCS between the Phillies and Diamondbacks on the WIP broadcast on Tuesday night.

McCarthy had just completed his first year as the Mets radio pregame and postgame host for WCBS.

Occasionally, he also covered game broadcasts for Howie Rose. According to the Phillies radio broadcast on WIP, “McCarthy was reported to be doing well.”
