The Portuguese transferred to the Italian team Novara in 2012 after passing the youth stages at Infesta, Boavista, and Pasteleira. 

Due to his impressive play, Serie A team Udinese offered him a co-ownership contract in 2013. He played at the Stadio Friuli for three seasons before transferring to Sampdoria in 2016.

The majority of Fernandes’ childhood football career was spent with Boavista, where he began as a central defender before switching to an attacking midfield position at the age of 15 after a loan to Pasteleira.

He also participated in the 2018 FIFA World Cup for Portugal in Russia, where they advanced to the round of 16 before losing to Uruguay.

In the tournament, Bruno started three of Portugal’s four games and registered a goal against Iran.
