Wichita North High School baseball coach Orlando Flores passed away in a tragic car accident.
Orlando Flores graduated from North High School in 2024 and completed his first year coaching a team in League 42, a league where he also played as a child.
During his senior season in 2023-24, Orlando emerged as the ace of North High School’s pitching staff.
Over 30.2 innings, he struck out 27 batters while maintaining a team-best 8.45 ERA.
He faced 167 batters and held opponents to a .305 average.
Orlando also recorded 3 wins, placing him among the top pitchers in both the Greater Wichita City area and the state rankings for his classification.
Offensively, he contributed as well, batting .286 with a .314 slugging percentage, finishing third on the team in both categories.
As a junior, he also led North’s pitching staff with a 6.33 ERA.
He also served as the coach of the Wichita North High School baseball team.
Orlando Flores And His Girlfriend Lost Their Lives In A Car Accident During A Family Trip To Mexico
A family trip to Mexico ended in tragedy as eight people died in a tragic crash on Monday, June 30, 2025, including North High baseball coach Orland Flores and his girlfriend, Nuvia Castillo.
However, the exact reason behind the accident has not been revealed as the investigation is ongoing.
League 42 founder Bob Lutz took to his official Facebook handle and announced the tragic news. He wrote,
Orlando coached with his brother and cousin and they were all so dedicated and so good with the kids,“I spoke with Orlando on Sunday and he was excited to return to coach with us in 2026. This is a devastating loss and our hearts go out to Orlando’s beautiful family and all who loved him.”

A former baseball coach at North High School, Randy Griffits, said that Orlando’s death has hit the school community so hard. He added,
“The deaths of these two young people has just hit everybody in that building, whether it’s been teachers, coaches, classmates; everyone feels it and it’s been a very sad day,”

Hunter Shockley, an Independence Community College graduate, also took to his official Facebook handle and sent prayers to Orlando’s family. He wrote,
Today is a sad day one of my past players lost his life in a car wreck in Mexico! Orlando flores was a great baseball player but and even better kid you couldn’t have asked for a better kid to coach. He was that kid that made coaching a lot easier because he was eager learn and ready to listen! I’m so glad I got to know Orlando when he was at north and he will be missed. Rest in peace. Prayers for the family’s loss.

We are at a loss for words..… received horrible news last night that Orlando Flores passed away in a car accident. Orlando played for the Curve for 3 years from 2022-2024. Angela Flores organized a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe to help Orlando, his girlfriend Nuvia’s family, bring back their body and for the funeral costs.
The campaign aimed to collect around $ 5,500, and it has collected approximately $3,403.
According to the sources, League 42 plans to pay tribute to Flores on Thursday, July 3, 2025. Bob Lutz said,
“We will do something that honors Orlando in some way, because as a former player and current coach, he deserves it,” “He deserves the recognition and he deserves our respect and adoration.” “It’s going to be tough to remember his contributions here and to be sad that he was not able to do more, because we all know he wanted to,”

Orlando Flores Is Survived By His Brother, Vladimir Flores
A former player and coach at North High School, Orlando Flores, grew up with his brother, Vladimir Flores.
Vladimir, a 2020 graduate of North High School in Wichita, Kansas, was a dedicated member of the varsity baseball team, playing both as a pitcher and infielder.
Standing 5 feet 8 and 160 pounds, he was officially added to the varsity roster in 2019.
As a pitcher, he logged multiple appearances, including a complete game win against Southeast High School in April 2017, where he threw 45 pitches in a dominant 20-10 victory.
During the game against South High School, he posted a perfect batting average and on-base percentage (1.000).
His final recorded game came on May 16, 2019, in a hard-fought 6-9 loss to Lawrence High School.
Currently, Vladimir is mourning the tragic loss of his brother, Orlando Flores.
