22-Year-Old Yakima, Washington Resident and Former High School Athlete Jonathan Roberts Dies After Struggling with Mental Health, Survived by Partner McKinlee, Son Zaccai, and Family

The Yakima, Washington, community is mourning the untimely death of beloved member and former athlete, Jonathan Joseph Roberts.

According to his obituary page, Jonathan Roberts passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at an untimely age of 22 following a mental illness.

Born on August 3, 2003, in Portland, Oregon, Jonathan faced a genetic predisposition to addiction and mental illness from an early age, confronting these challenges with courage throughout his teen years.

Tragically, despite his efforts, he was unable to overcome his struggles with mental health.

Furthermore, the untimely death of Jonathan Roberts has left a profound void in the lives of his family, friends, and loved ones.

Jonathan touched the lives of many with his amazing athletic skills, excelling in basketball, and his kind and cheerful nature.

Growing up in Yakima, Washington, Jonathan Roberts played for an AAU basketball team under his father’s guidance.

He further continued his athletic journey in high school, playing basketball for the varsity team and leading his team to several victories.

Although he didn’t continue his athletic journey, he excelled in his career as an auto mechanic.

After graduating from high school, he completed a manufacturing course to become an auto mechanic. Despite Jonathan Roberts’ untimely death, his contribution to the community will always be remembered.

Many of his loved ones are sharing memories of the late Jonathan on social media and extending their heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult time.

Jonathan Roberts is Survived by His Parents, Brian and Darcie, and The Entire Family

In addition to being an amazing athlete, Jonathan Roberts was a great son to his parents, Brian and Darcie Roberts.

While his parents haven’t released any statement regarding the untimely death of Jonathan Roberts, they often share pictures of their only son on social media expressing love and pride.

His father, Brian Roberts, who is a basketball coach, served as Jonathan’s first coach.

Similarly, his mother, Darcie Roberts, is an accomplished artist who holds a BS in Business Management and later earned a BS in Education.

Born in Wapato, WA, Jonathan’s mother, Darcie, began taking art seriously in 2016 and has won several prestigious awards, including the People’s Choice Award, Customer’s Choice Award, and numerous others.

Jonathan Roberts was also a devoted partner to his longtime girlfriend, McKinlee Watson. The couple first met when Jonathan was just 17 and were together until his recent passing.

Jonathan and McKinlee gave birth to their son Zaccai ‘Cai” Roberts on April 13, 2022. He often shared pictures of his son and partner on social media, expressing his love.

Furthermore, Kinlee Watson took to her social media to pay tribute to her late partner, Jonathan Roberts, and wrote, “I’m the luckiest girl in the whole world because I got to be loved by you. 💔.”

Jonathan Roberts also leaves behind his sister, Lauren Roberts; grandparents; aunts; uncles; cousins; and the entire family.
