His new home in Turkey also opens the way for his love life. While learning Spanish, Yasmani met his future wife, Elif Koc.

Copello has an all-around developed physique. He trains 7 hours a day to maintain his ripped, muscular, athletic body.

He likes to do outdoor sessions in the morning and indoor sessions in the afternoon.

Cuba

Copello started competing at national events in 2006 as a teenager. In the Cuban Athletics Championship, he finished fourth, and in OlimpiadaCubana, he finished fifth. 

Later, in 2007 in his first international competition, he finished runner-up to Cuban athlete Omar Cisneros in the 2007 ALBA Games. 

Moreover, he finished the race with his new personal best time of 49.99 seconds. He also competed in a 4×400 m relay where he helped Ciba win the gold medal. 

Likewise, his other relay title for Cuba came in the 2008 Ibero-American Championship. 

He also competed in 2008 Central American and Caribbean Championship but secured silver behind Jamaican Isa Phillips.

Although he was named in the provisional squad for the Cuba relay team in the 2008 Summer Olympics, he didn’t participate later.

But in the Central American and Caribbean Championship, he could finish in podium position. 

Later in 2010, he secured the second position in Cuba’s Barrientos Memorial and victory in Olimpiada Cubana. 

Next year his win in the 2011 Copa Cuba meet became his last win in his home country before moving to Turkey.

After moving to Turkey in 2012, he joined Fenerbahce Athletics, winning the national championship in his first year. 

Later, in 2013 Copello set his new personal best and Cuban record in 400m hurdles. In the Meeting, Val de Reuil finished with 49.54 seconds.

Switching Nationality

When Copello’s coach sidelined him from Cuba national team, his passion and ambition led him to train under the new private coach. 

Later, his continuous success in Fenerbahce caught Turkish track and field national team managers. 

So, in October 2013, he opted for Turkish nationality. Later, in April 2014, he was able to represent Turkey at international events. 

Olympics

Yasmani Copello competed in his first Olympics at the 2016 Rio Olympics. He qualified for the next round with the timing of 49.52 and improved with 48.61 in the semis. 

Later, in the finals, he placed third, finishing with a time of 47.92 seconds. Moreover, it was Turkey’s first medal in the track category. 

In the recent 2021 Tokyo Olympics, he failed to finish in podium position. However, Copello reached his second consecutive finals.
