Rumors of Jaylen Brown leaving the Boston Celtics next year are swirling around social media. His four-year contract with the Celtics ends in 2024 & many assume he may not enter an extension.
On October 21, 2019, the Celtics signed him on a $106 million worth contract for four years through the 2023-24 season. He becomes an unrestricted free agent afterward.
It made him the second-highest earner on the team after Jayson Tatum, who earns $32.6 million annually.
Brown’s NBA journey began after the Celtics selected him as the third overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft, behind the top two picks: Ben Simmons (#1) & Brandon Ingram (#2).
Since his debut in 2016, he’s been in every post-season game with the team, except in the 2021 NBA playoffs (of the 2020-21 season) when he underwent wrist surgery.
Though the two-time NBA All-Star Jaylen is yet to lift the NBA Finals trophy to date.
In the 2023 NBA playoffs, the three consecutive losses to the Miami Heat in the Conference Finals nearly stamped them off the tournament.
But after the Celtics won in Games 4, 5, and 6, the franchise fans saw the rays of hope in a call for Game 7.
However, the dramatic Celtics-Heat Eastern Conference finals series reached a bit of an anticlimactic blowout wins for Miami. The Heat defeated Boston 103-84 to advance to the NBA Finals.
Is Jaylen Brown Leaving The Celtics?
People are discussing what will happen to Brown after his four-year deal with the Celtics expires.
Since he becomes an unrestricted free agent, he has a choice to sign an extension or leave his team without restrictions.
The NBA and the players association have agreed to change the rules for extending contracts starting next year.
This will let the Celtics offer more money to players who have been with them for a while.
Brown is eligible for a 5-year, $295 million extension this Summer. Should the Celtics make him the highest-paid player in NBA history?
Well, the question has been scratching everyone’s head, especially the Celtic’s owners.
In the 2022-23 NBA season, the Celtics became the division leader & clinched the playoffs.
Following a 4-2 win over the Atlanta Hawks in the first round of the playoffs, they beat Philadelphia with a competitive 4-3 win in the conference semi-finals.
But they saw the struggle in the Conference Finals against Miami Heat, losing in the first three games.
In such crucial moments, Jaylen Brown could barely showcase his potential & many are already assuming that this deficit could encourage him to move away from the Celtics.
Net Worth
Jaylen makes money from each game and the agreement he signs. He has an estimated net worth of $10 million in October 2026.
The basketball player has a multi-year endorsement deal with Adidas with a $1 million yearly contract.
