During his tenure with the Bruins, Gilbert significantly contributed to the team’s success.

The goaltender earned a reputation for making incredible saves and maintaining composure under pressure.

He played a pivotal role in the Bruins’ Stanley Cup victories in 1974 and 1976, endearing himself to the Boston crowd and earning the affectionate nickname “Gilbert the Great.”

A Legend On Ice

Gilles Gilbert’s NHL journey began when the Minnesota North Stars selected him as the 25th overall pick in the third round of the 1969 NHL Amateur Draft.

In May of 1973, the Stars traded him to the Boston Bruins, which was the peak of his career. During his time with the Bruins, he played 277 games over seven years.

He ultimately retired after the 1983 season, concluding his career with 192 wins, 143 losses, and 60 ties, along with a .883 SV% and a 3.27 GAA.
