A beloved figure in Iowa’s racing community and a longtime supporter of the IMCA, Greg Kastli passed away on September 10, 2025, at the age of 72.
While the cause of Greg Kastli’s death has not been publicly disclosed, what remains undeniable is the depth of his legacy.
Greg Kastli Dedicated His Life In Racing And Community Service!
A fierce competitor and humble champion, Greg Kastli was not only a racing legend but also a respected auctioneer in lowa.
Kastli earned 40 sanctioned IMCA Late Model feature wins and claimed the prestigious IMCA Super Nationals title in 1989.
He secured five track championships, four at Independence Motor Speedway and one at Fayette County Raceway.
Furthermore, he added 18 Modified feature wins to his record, including dual track titles in 1986.
His racing resume also included ten appearances at the Yankee Dirt Track Classic and time on the NASCAR Busch All-Star Tour.
Beyond the track, Kastli was known for his dedication to community and service.
He retired from John Deere more than 25 years ago and ran a successful auctioneering business in Waterloo and Independence, Iowa.
Earlier in 2025, he was inducted into the Independence Motor Speedway Hall of Fame.
His legacy lives on not only in trophies and titles but in the respect he earned from fellow racers and fans.
His passing left a void in the hearts of his family and the entire community.
One of his grandchildren, Conner Mathis, paid tribute to his Greg, saying:
Still so speechless as to what happened tonight. I lost the person I looked up to most, who was like a father to me, the one who showed me how to treat people and taught me everything I know. You will be so so missed grandpa. You will forever hold a special place in my heart that no one will ever come close too. Race in paradise grandpa
