Maci Elizabeth Westmeister, 20, of Shelby, passed away unexpectedly on April 19, 2025, in Mansfield. Her sudden loss has left her loved ones heartbroken.
In the 2019 Division II girls state golf tournament qualifiers, Maci Westmeister played as a sophomore on the Shelby High School team, helping secure the Whippets’ fourth-place finish in the Northwest District with a team total score of 379.
Competing alongside teammates Nicole Jones, Julia Gutchall, Gillian Stumbo, and Tressie Carroll, Maci scored 117 in a highly competitive field.

She leaves behind her adopted parents, Shawn and Lynn Westmeister, and her Godfather, Fr. Nick Cunningham.
It is with devastated hearts that Lynn and I share that our daughter Maci has passed away. We are beyond devastated and our hearts will forever be broken.

Her memory will also live on with her grandparents: Maggie Fetzer, John and Rita West, and Kimberly and Mark Meister; her great-grandparents: Herbert and Rebecca Coon; and her many aunts, uncles, and cousins who will miss her dearly.
Further, Bethany Baker shared that while she didn’t know Maci very closely, they had spent time together in Girl Scouts when they were younger.
She remembered that Maci had big dreams of enlisting after graduation and expressed how heartbreaking it is that she was taken too soon.
Her thoughts and prayers are with Maci’s family during this tough time.
A private service was held for close family. In remembrance of Maci and her creative spirit, the Maci Westmeister Scholarship has been established to help others carry on her love of the arts.

He spoke honestly about the pain his sister went through and how unfair it felt, especially knowing what she had to deal with.
In the comments, Xavier Brown shared how, despite being raised in a household, Maci was mistreated and emotionally hurt, and he believes those who were supposed to care for her failed her deeply.
