Akron, Ohio Native and Former Softball Coach, David Howard Carter, 83 Passes Away, Leaving Behind His Wife, Nancy Wykoff and Children

David Howard Carter, an Akron, Ohio native and former softball coach, passed away on August 26, 2025, at the age of 83, leaving his family, friends, and loved ones heartbroken.

While the actual cause of his death is not yet available, many of his loved ones are paying tribute to the late David Howard Carter and extending their heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult time.

One of his former students, whom he coached, wrote: “RIP to my first softball coach.

Another added:

“David was a kind and generous soul just like his Mom , Dad and sister. Huge hearts in this family. The world is a much sadder place without him.”

David Howard Carter touched the lives of many with his amazing coaching skills and guided several athletes.

He served as a local softball coach for several years, leading his team to numerous victories.

Born in Akron on November 17, 1941, David also played multiple sports while attending Ellet High School.

Although he didn’t pursue his athletic journey professionally, he guided numerous athletes as a softball coach.

He also worked as a rubber worker at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 40 years and was a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous for over 42 years.

The whole Akron, Ohio, community is currently mourning the loss of their beloved member, David Carter, and recalling his memories.

David Howard Carter Is Survived By His Wife, Nancy, Three Kids, Grandchildren, and The Whole Family

David was not just an amazing coach to many but also a great husband to his beloved wife, Nancy Lee Wykoff Carter.

The late David Carter first met his wife, Nancy Lee Wykoff Carter, also an Akron, Ohio native, after graduating from high school and while working at the East Drive Theater.

They crossed paths at the concession stand at the theater. The couple attended the same college, Kent State University.

Furthermore, the couple tied the knot on July 2, 1960, and were happily married for 65 years, raising three successful kids, Danny, David Jr., and Barbie Carter Knoll.

David Carter and Nancy instilled their athletic genes in all three of their kids.

In addition to his wife and children, David Carter is survived by his daughter-in-law, Laura; son-in-law, Jay; grandson, Andrew Carter; great-grandchildren, Madison and Grayson Carter; Emmalyn Frasier; and the entire family.

His family has organized a memorial and funeral service for the late David Howard Carter on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Newcomer Funeral Home, located at 131 N. Canton Rd, Akron, Ohio.
