Besides being a talented diver, Zecchini is also a traveler, writer, and speaker.

She had a strong connection with Steve, and even though they didn’t get married, it is possible that they might have thought of getting married at some point.

Alessia’s journey in competitive freediving began at 13 when she completed her first federal apnea course in A.s.d. “Apnea Blu Mare.”

Currently, she holds the depth record with an impressive -113 meters (-371 feet) in constant weight.

She set the record on August 2019 during the World Championship in Roatán, Honduras.

In addition to her individual accomplishments, Alessia has been an integral part of the national freediving team since 2012.

Zecchini has participated in both indoor and outdoor events as a member of the Italian team.

Over the course of her career, Zecchini has won a total of 16 gold medals, five silver medals, and two bronze medals at the World Championships.

Who Is Alessia Zecchini Husband?

Alessia Zecchini and the late Steve Keenan were in a romantic relationship.

Steve was responsible for ensuring Alessia’s safety during her descents and ascents.

This involved being vigilant to prevent the dangerous effects of a rapid ascent that could result in a blackout or loss of consciousness.

The couple’s love for free diving brought them together and quickly developed a deep and instant connection.

Both excelled in their respective roles, with Steve being recognized as the world’s most renowned safety diver, while Alessia held world records in the sport.

Tragically, their love story faced a devastating turn just a few years later. The tragedy occurred when they took on one of the most perilous dives in the world.

A Tragic Loss

Alessia and her late partner Steve embarked on a journey to Egypt.

Specifically for a freediving expedition in the treacherous Blue Hole, a sinkhole located in the Red Sea, on July 22, 2017.

Tragically, a devastating accident occurred that day involving the Italian couple.

Their main objective was for Alessia to achieve a challenging feat by reaching the arch in the Blue Hole. Moreover, the dive had claimed many lives in the past.

However, during the dive, Alessia experienced disorientation at a significant depth.

Reacting quickly, Stephen rushed to help her at a reported depth of 50 meters (164 feet) in an attempt to bring her safely to the surface.

Fortunately, Alessia managed to return to safety unharmed, but sadly, Steve did not survive the incident as he blacked out underwater at an uncertain depth.

Adding to the tragedy, Alessia had faced another disappearance earlier in 2015.

It was on the coast of Formentera, Spain, due to a freak water current, and she was later presumed dead. This incident almost led her to quit the sport altogether.

Despite the heartbreaking loss of her boyfriend and the inherent dangers of freediving, Alessia’s determination to compete has not ended.

Despite the tragedy, Alessia remains dedicated to her passion and keeps the memory of her late partner Steve close to her heart.

In 2018, Zecchini achieved a remarkable milestone by setting a new AIDA world record in constant weight.

Likewise, in 2019, she set two more world records in the discipline of free immersion under the supervision of AIDA.

Despite the loss she endured, Alessia has earned numerous honors and accolades, showcasing her exceptional skill and determination in the world of freediving.

The Zechchini Family

Alessia Zecchini was born on June 30, 1992, in Italy to her father, Enzo, and an unidentified woman.

Her first encounter with water happened when her family was on vacation. It was near the Italian coastal areas, and her father, Enzo, introduced her to it.

When Alessia displayed an interest in diving and swimming, both of her parents wholeheartedly supported her.

Enzo graduated from the Sapienza University of Rome and worked as an associate director in an Italian corporate company.

Meanwhile, Alessia’s mother was a homemaker, taking care of their family’s household.

The diver shares a great bond with her parents and often posts them on her social media accounts.
